I totally miss volunteering.

I remember being on the field, reaching out to impoverished communities, sharing valuable lessons, and enjoying meals together.

This pandemic stripped me of that chance.

Until I started conducting free Zoom call center training sessions in 2020. It was a great experience (and distraction) from the horrors of the early days of Covid.

I was an instrument of hope to some aspirants, and I take pride in that. Makes me validate my purpose, really.

But it was tiring.

I did this on my own. Logistics, training content, learning rigor, employment assistance. You name it.

The passion to help has been there, but it was exhausting. And that was what held me back sometimes.

I was alone. The thought of being alone. It was draining. And at some point, it was scary.

Until someone reminded us that, "Tumindig kayo. tinitiyak ko, mayroon ding titindig sa tabi ninyo."

Lo and behold, so many volunteers from the BPO industry stood up. We need more volunteers, though. So you make "tindig" na with us. 😂

As a recruiting professional, driven by my passion to help more job seekers land the best jobs they can get, conducting free training like this is bliss.

What's more exciting is "lahat ng kulay welcome."

This is pure volunteerism. This is how we Filipinos should take care of our community.

By taking care of each other.

May hanap buhay para sa lahat.

Walang pangamba na walang pagkain sa hapag.

So we say, "hello" to pagkain, and "goodbye" to gutom.

Sama-sama tayo aangat. Sama-sama tayo uunlad.

Sama-sama sa isang kulay rosas na bukas.

Walang maiiwanan. :')

Last night, I shared a handful of "secrets" on how you can get that dream role with the pioneer SMM Bootcamp batch of Startup Academy. Having this intimate conversation with a bunch of jobseekers reminded me that a lot of us are still struggling to look for jobs in spite of the abundance of opportunities

The challenge? Profile mismatch. We typically just apply without fully positioning our personal and professional brand in the direction where the role fits. We usually think that by merely submitting applications as many as possible, that would be enough already.

I'm a firm believer in solid planning and strategy in anything that I want to do, and that includes job hunting. This is what I teach. This is the value that I bring to my coachees and my target audience.

I remember applying to 33 different companies, and the 33rd one embraced me wholeheartedly. Took me a lot of time, money, energy, and tears, though. So I told myself, "I will not go through this again."

So in 2019, before getting the full-time job that I have now, I came up with THE plan. My goal was to apply to one company only and get hired there. And so I did. :)

Last week, I had a chance to talk about personal and professional branding on LinkedIn. I've been an advocate of utilizing our LinkedIn profiles to showcase the incredible work that we do and let the world see the wonderful talent that's us.

My audience? The pioneer batch of Startup Academy's Social Media Manager's Bootcamp, which I was a part of. :)

Learning has been one of the things that motivate me, and in spite of my heavy background in Human Resources, I find Digital Marketing an exciting way to help my current company and even reach my target audience some more -- Filipino jobseekers who need help in finding the best jobs.

For SMM aspirants and anyone who wants to get more clients or expand their business online, I do recommend you follow Startup Academy across their social media platforms and take advantage of the insights and opportunities you can get from them. Happy learning!

One thing I learned about being in the game is that speed and quality are two of the most important superpowers any recruiter should have.

There's a sense of urgency to hire the best talents so the business will continue to thrive. That also prevents burnout for the existing teams who will handle the workload while waiting for the new face to join them.

Then, there are the hundreds of candidates who possibly (1) have been unemployed for quite some time, (2) will be retrenched from their current companies due to some business hiccups, or (3) have been eager to take on more challenges in a new corporate jungle.

Regardless, delivering the best candidate AND hiring team experience should be considered. At. All. Times.

We all have been a candidate in some chapters of our lives, so we all know that waiting sucks. And we also know that not getting any updates, regardless of the result, is worse.

So, recruiters, hiring managers, or anyone who's in charge of hiring for your organizations, let's prioritize giving top-notch experience in hiring and selection. Tell the candidates if they failed or if they aced the hiring process. Keep them warm if they need to wait some more. Process their applications as soon as you can without compromising quality.

Whether you're a candidate, a recruiter, or a hiring manager, we all deserve to have our time valued and respected.
