SCAM ALERT: ROYAL MAIL TEXT MESSAGE

MESSAGE FROM SARA

Just received this text “apparently” from Royal Mail saying I need to pay £2 to schedule a redelivery. Obviously I know it’s a scam as

1) I’m not awaiting any post!

And

2) I have scheduled re-deliveries legitimately through Royal Mail and it has never cost £2 and they’ve NEVER sent me a text to do!

I know it’s a scam but a lot of others may not and so thought I would warn others.

His daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore said he had been treated for pneumonia over the past few weeks and last week tested positive for Covid-19.

The Army veteran won the nation's hearts by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday.

TWO men have been locked up for a house burglary where they drove off with the owner’s car.

Luke Linden, 18, and Joshua Whiteley, 20, were part of a gang of three who used tools to break the lock on the front door of a house in Brompton Road, East Bowling, while the owner was sleeping and stole the keys to their white Vauxhall Astra.

The group, who were all wearing dark tracksuits and gloves, were spotted by a nearby resident who saw the car do a U-turn, who called police at around 2.20am.

A FAMILY has won a landmark case against a hospital trust that allowed a young mum’s body to decompose to the point that third-party involvement in her death was unable to be ruled out.

In a judgement handed down today, Judge Andrew Saffman concluded Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust had breached the human rights of Emily Whelan’s family by failing to preserve her body and awarded them damages.

Matthew Gold, solicitor for the Whelan family, said it was the first time a court had ruled a hospital has a legal obligation to treat a body with dignity and respect to ensure it does not badly decompose to prevent a breach of Article 8 of European Convention of Human Rights, the right to respect for private and family life.

BRITAIN SURPASSES 100,000 COVID-19 DEATHS IN GRIM NEW MILESTONE

More than 100,000 Britons have died within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test, official data showed on Tuesday (Jan 26), a grim new milestone as the government battles to speed up vaccination delivery and keep variants of the virus at bay.

Britain has the fifth highest toll globally and reported a further 1,631 deaths and 20,089 cases on Tuesday, according to government figures.

The 100,162 deaths are more than the country's civilian toll in World War II and twice the number killed in the 1940-41 Blitz bombing campaign, although the total population was lower then.

Man Jailed For Gun and Machete Attack

A man from Bradford has been jailed for a total of 14 years for his role in an incident where a man was shot and attacked with a machete.

Nicholas Beck, aged 30, of Dawnay Road, was sentenced today (Thursday) at Leeds Crown Court, where he was found guilty of wounding with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence following a trial.

His co-defendant John Wilkinson, aged 28, of Sage Street, was cleared of all charges.

The incident occurred in Grayswood Crescent in Holmewood in April this year, when the victim Mark Lee, 36, was attacked by two males as he sat in his car.

Mr Lee managed to escape to a nearby address and the emergency services were called. He was then taken to hospital, where he was treated for serious injuries.

An investigation was launched by West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, which led to the arrest of five suspects, including Beck and Wilkinson who were subsequently charged.

Beck was given 14 years for the assault and five years for the fi****ms offence. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Speaking after sentencing Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Andy Cass, said:

“Violent crime will not be tolerated in West Yorkshire and any offence involving the discharge of a weapon is treated extremely seriously.

“West Yorkshire Police is committed to tackling fi****ms crime and this outcome should serve as a warning to others that you are likely to go to prison for several years if you are convicted of such an offence.”

New Children’s Mayor of Leeds announced after record number of votes. Congratulations to Wania on being elected as the new Children's Mayor of Leeds. Wania spent much of the summer holidays campaigning in an election that saw nearly 9,000 local children and young people cast their vote – a new record for the unique Children’s Mayor programme. The Children’s Mayor programme fits within the wider vision of creating a Child Friendly Leeds where every child and young person feels like they can have a voice. Now in its 16th year, the programme is designed to help children in Leeds develop a greater understanding of democracy and the importance of voting and to encourage them to think about the role they could play in improving their city or communities. A total of 48 schools submitted candidates this year and these were shortlisted to the final 12 by a panel of children and young people representing Leeds Youth Council
