It’s a honor to be a wife and mother of 5❤️. I take family seriously and I absolutely enjoy all of the ups and downs that come with each lesson. I am a Navy veteran who served during 9/11. I will always appreciate the freedoms that I helped to keep free for this country. I am a sickle cell trait, Chiari Malformation Type 1, and fibromyalgia Warrior! On July 4, 1881, Booker T. Washington opened Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, now recognized as Tuskegee University, a prominent Historically Black College and University (HBCU)
After graduating from Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute (now Hampton University), Washington took leadership of Tuskegee. This followed Alabama's 1880 legislation aimed at establishing a school for Blacks in Macon County, championed by former slaves Lewis Adams and George W Campbell. Despite initial challenges such as securing land and funding, Washington garnered local support and began recruiting students.
Using borrowed funds, he purchased a 100-acre plantation where students made bricks to fund the school's growth. Renamed Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, it expanded to 540 acres by 1888, offering vocational training
Today, Tuskegee University remains an independent state-related institution, empowering Black students through academic and vocational excellence 📚🎓💰
