Thinking back, seems like 2023 was a bit of a muddy, wet blur. Can't remember getting poured on so many times in one year. Was a bit of a rough year for us on the bike, but we're looking forward to clearer skies in 2024! We are always on the hunt for events to experience for the first time, so send your suggestions our way, and we hope to see you out there in 2024!

Convinced my stoker/better half to give the tandem another go this weekend at Maple Leaf Gravel Grind, one of our favorite local events. What started out as a brisk fall ride on some awesome roads rapidly turned into an extension of this never-ending mud year. The episode of our Salida 76 gravel adventure is up! We knew attempting this event on our tandem with very very limited fitness would be a challenge, but boy was it a day out there. This had to be one of the most scenic routes we've ever seen, but you had to work for those views! Did we manage to finish the entire route? Are we still married? How many flat tires did we get this time? Why do we do this and will we ever try another event on the tandem? Tune in to find out!

A view worth the drive, wouldn't you agree?
The tandem team came to win Salida 76, and we dominated! Just kidding. We had no intentions of anything other than a great time, and finished much closer to last than first. We knew it was going to be a long day with the amount of climbing at elevation on a tandem and our current lack of fitness, so a finish was a win for us. This was a great event with a challenging course, amazing scenery, excellent support, and a finish line party that made it hard to leave, in one of our favorite towns! It is definitely one to work into your event calendar someday. Next up, a looong day in the driving back to Eastern Kansas while we lick our wounds.

Fun morning riding the trails of Fruita, Colorado. Even snuck in one of the famous ridge trails for a few miles. Been a minute since I've been on a mtb, especially one as big as an Ripmo. Bike rental from .fruita for the win! Bit toasty here still, probably time to increase our elevation a bit. Next stop ???
Things got a bit stormy in Franklin County this week. We didn't make it through totally unscathed, but things could have been way worse. The good news is the took that ash tree like a champ. The bad news is the solar panel did not fare as well.

Been putting in some serious sweat equity the last few weeks to get the kitchen galley to point that we could use it on some upcoming travel. Field testing will commence immediately.
Finally got enough time at home to make some progress on the van build. Bob Vila I am not, but the kitchen galley project is progressing nicely.
The has been an awesome tool for gravel event weekends. Interior build progress has been slow, mostly because we've been out using it so much! We were able to finish up our rooftop deck with the help of Camel Roof Racks recently, and it has been an awesome addition. Can't wait to see more progress in the coming weeks.

Bighorn Gravel put on an awesome event in Gypsum, Colorado last weekend. Unfortunately, I managed to turn what was a beautiful ride and route into quite the debacle. Video documenting my struggles is up, link below.. It was a great reminder how fast things can go wrong, and the responsibility we have in not putting ourselves in dangerous positions.
