In the heart of Wajir West, where the sun beats down,Stands Mau Mau Primary, a school of renown.
Yet its walls tell stories of neglect and plight,Where lower primary children learn from dawn till the afternoon.

Grade 1, 2, 3, in a room so bare,
With cracked floors and no desks, they sit and stare.Their bags scattered, papers on the ground,In a classroom where learning should be found.

Outside, under acacia trees so wide,
Many more children study, side by side in ICF, primary in Wajir East .The fund received, a vast sum indeed,Yet the conditions persist, a pressing need.

the irony of 170 Millions CDF funds so vast,While children sit on floors that are cracked & dilapidated classrooms.
Let's hope for change, for a brighter day,
Where every child is treated with dignity and has a desk, come what may.

A delegation of the FSD Kenya led consortium, including PwC Kenya, Adaptation Consortium and ALDEF Kenya, held a meeting with the Wajir County Executive and technical team, purposely for introduction of the County Green Project Preparation Facility. The team will support the county to establish a green investment working group that will lead the development of project proposals to attract climate finance from various sources including the private sector.

The project seeks to explore alternative innovative climate financing models and market instruments such as bonds (i.e. blue bonds, green bonds), debt swaps among others, as possible sources of finance for green investment. This work will be building on the initial green finance assessment that was conducted in 2023, evaluating four components, i.e. Economic and fiscal; credit risk; green asset availability and green finance capability for the County, and whose report, released in 2024, highlighted Wajir County’s potential and opportunities for investment in enhancing energy efficiency, water harvesting, and agro-processing for export purposes.

WAJIR MUNICIPALITY TO SPEARHEAD A CLEAN-UP EXERCISE ON SATURDAY 25TH.

Wajir Municipality through the Municipality manager, Mr Omar Hussein Shano, has today met officials of 40 Wajir County Football Clubs ahead of the Municipality Cleaning Day which is slated on Saturday 25th January.

Other stakeholders that will take part in the exercises include; Banks, Schools, Non-governmental Organizations, civil societies, government officials and Wajir residents.

The daylong exercise covers massive clean up of the major streets, alleys and storm drainages alongside public awareness campaign meant to educate the public on proper waste management practices.

"This clean up is part of our wider efforts to keep our Municipality clean and instil the habit of good sanitation practices among the citizenry of our county," said Omar Shano while speaking to the representative of the clubs

The county çash technical working Group meeting was held today at Wajir guest house where the partners presented updates on county cash & social protection programmes .This comes a time when the county is at alert status of the drought following the depressed rains of October,November and Decmeber 2024.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy County commissioner,Wajir south Mr.keffa and co-chaired by Abdikaidr Alasow department of disaster & DRM.
The session moderator was Abdihakim khalif of Ndma(secretariat)

We are formally urging the Governor of Wajir County to impose a ban on the scrap metal business operating within our region. This industry has significantly contributed to a disturbing increase in vandalism and theft, creating a climate of insecurity for our communities.

To date, there have been reports of 15 solar batteries being stolen from various mosques, depriving these places of worship of essential energy resources. Furthermore, there have been numerous incidents of theft involving gates from residential properties and water pumps that are vital for agricultural activities. In specific areas, such as Bulla Jogoo, even cooking utensils, including sufurias, have been taken, which is indicative of how desperate the situation has become.

The rise of unemployment among our youth has led many to engage in vandalism and theft, driven by the incentive of selling stolen goods to scrap metal dealers. It is alarming to note that almost every scrap metal dealer in the area is profiting from stolen items taken from the households of Wajir residents, exacerbating the cycle of crime and theft.

As concerned residents, it believe it is critical for the Wajir county government and local authorities to take immediate action to protect our community from these criminal activities and restore safety for all residents of Wajir County.
