In ancient times, the forbidden city was only for the elite; Farmers and traders are prohibited from entering. Also known as the "Palace Museum", the Forbidden City was the residence of the Ming and Qing dynasties from 560 until 1911. The Beijing Forbidden City was a symbol of Chinese architecture, with more than 800 rooms with gold-encrusted roof. It is also home to 24 emperors and hosts traditional and ancient Chinese ceremonies.
