The contemporary hilltop home, also fondly called 'the home in the clouds', serves as an escapade from the hustle and bustle of city life for a young family of four. Anchored amid the picturesque terrain of the Sahyadri hills, the parcel of land offers the most breathtaking views of nature, enabling the home to visually take reign over clouds, hills and the horizon beyond.

Inspired by the attributes of the land, a symphony between concrete and steel takes shape into an architectural sculpture. One that moulds itself politely to envelope the hill topography, and to capture and frame the most spectacular compositions of mother nature.

DSGN arcHive dives into the design vocabulary of Megapark shopping centre located in Bangkok, Thailand.

A contemporary reinterpretation to the 'shopping centre' model, moulded to represent a green scaffold where vertical greens and landscapes blend in with the structure itself.

Nurturing this blend of nature with the built form, Head designer, Luke Yeung, pushes the boundaries further with a new approach that merges commercial functions of the centre with the community and the public.

The uniqueness of 'wabi sabi' lies in the asymmetrical, unfinished, irregular, unbalanced, incomplete, impermanent; to conceive an aesthetic language that is imperfect. Much like 'mother nature'.

Nestled in the bustling cityscape of Mumbai where design is inspired by unnatural perfections, one apartment preaches quite the opposite.

Conjured by Ashiesh Shah, the 8000 sqft apartment brings together an eclectic fusion of interior aesthetics that harmoniously exudes a narration of "perfect - imperfections".

The 'Malabar Hill Residence' is indeed the epitome of everything and more, 'wabi sabi'.

In this publication 'DSGN arcHive' dives into the design narration of a unique abode called 'Ovoid'. An idyllic holiday home nestled in a lush coffee estate in Mudigere, Karnataka, India.

"This holiday home nestled in the greenest depth of “The Coffee brewing and Co.” coffee estate, is a contemporary adaptation of the local architecture with pitched roofing. The design stemmed from the basic brief of flowing with the land topography and creating the entire structure so that its within the foliage height."
-Greyscale Design Studio

Sporting an unfinished appeal in locally procured materials and spanning naturally across the plantation terrain, the home perfectly blends in with its environment capturing the essence of the coffee estate, indoors and out.

An experience at a hotel is usually one that stays with us for its uniqueness to day-to-day life. "Uniqueness" that is briefly experienced in the forms of luxury, indulgence and the finest surroundings.

Taking 'hotel-living' to a new level,
We dive into the interior aesthetics of a hotel-inspired abode, where "hotel-life" indeed becomes an everyday affair.

Nestled in Pune, India, the design concept resonates into every nook and cranny of the 8000sqft home, to deliver the best experiences a hotel can offer.
With the expertise of AMPM Designs, 'The Suite Living' as the project is aptly called, could'nt deliver a sweeter hotel experience for its inhabitants.

'DSGN arcHive' dives into the design narrative of 'Ocean front home' located in Chennai, India. A 4bhk apartment infused with disparate styles of bespoke furnishings & finishes, amped up with a vibrant palette of colours. The home aesthetically emulates an art gallery of sorts bringing a pot pourri of art and artefacts to the fore, collected by the clients themselves. All the spaces come together harmoniously to conceive a contemporary eclectic home for an artiscally enthusiastic kin of 4 individuals.

A romantic proposal at 'Tiffany & Co.', translates into the design inspiration for a whimsical, outlandish luxury apartment, namely 'Epiphany Blue', located in New Delhi, India.

To celebrate 'love', the dwelling is a constant reminder of a couple's most-cherished memory, brought to life by Delhi-based interior designer 'SANJYT | SYNGH in collaboration with Kolkata-based luxury furniture & decor company SCARLET SPLENDOUR.

Together these forces take the romantic narrative to a whimsical latitude, elevating the aesthetics to match the enigma of the fantastical British classic of 'Alice in Wonderland'.

Starting from the iconic 'Tiffany blue' to the 'Mad-hatters tea party', 'Epiphany Blue' is indeed a design that will leave you awestruck.

The design of a 5-Star hotel

'DSGN arcHive' dives into the exquisite aesthetic makeup of one hotel, from the books of India's most luxurious hotel chains. The 320 keys hotel, TAJ Skyline, is the epitome of Indian culture, an intricate showcase of traditional craftsmanship and a vibrant manifestation of the country's natural diversity.

"The hospitality sector is a diverse industry and while each client has different priorities, the guest experience, comfort and convenience are at the crux of every design. We at ARK understand that the feel and ambience have to be immensely attractive, comfortable and functional.

The TAJ Skyline embraces the culture of Gujarat in all forms, and incorporates elements close to the local culture and context of the state."

India was the first country, outside of Great Britain, to adopt golf as a sport. The first golf club of India was founded in 1829 – the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC). Affectionately known as the “Royal”, it is synonymous with the game of golf in this country and is the oldest golf club outside the British Isles.

The vintage yet modern bar where golfers enjoy their time after their game of 18 holes is aptly called 'Bar at 19th'.

DSGN arcHive dives into the aesthetic transformation of 'Bar at 19th' from an outdated aging space to an exciting reinterpretation of the heritage building, redesigned by 'Spaces & Design', Kolkata.

Deep within the untamed wilderness of Karjat, stands a symbol of refuge on a tranquil 3.5 acres of farmland. Moulded as a monolithic mass of architecture, a building docks itself in liquid stone as an escape from the rigour of city life. The built form mimics the natural rusticity of its surroundings by standing bare against the sun to weather gracefully, as it was crafted to do so. It is in this state of solitude and ageing character that the farmhouse becomes second home to a family eagerly in search of a change in pace, far from any vestige of civilization.

"When the clients shared their brief for a “down to earth” look for their common entertainment space for a joint family , the internal introspection within us as a firm was important. To curate bespoke interiors typical to a site and a client has always been a principle at Spaces and Design and it was again a chance for us to revisit our instinct to “ constantly innovate”.
The result is a space that offers stillness and peace of mind that cannot be described but only experienced!" -Spaces and Design

Deep in the midst of Mumbai’s business district is tucked a little whisper from the island nation of Japan. Perched atop a high rise far from the visceral stimulants of the city below, is an intervention that unfolds into a one of a kind office environment. Designed for a Japanese Investment bank, the office is a showcase of zen that is quite opposite to what the busy city offers, translating into a veritable escape for its workforce. Zen Office, as the project is named, welcomes Japan into the Indian geography, celebrating its welcome simply through the passage of design.

Sustainable Landscape Architecture along the Marina Bay & Singapore Straits

One would think these vast outdoor spaces are just meant to be engaged with by day.
Interestingly they also come to life by night...and what a spectacle!

To facilitate such large landscaped interventions by night it's reassuring to know that this is where nature and technology strike a chord...
