Running a 12 hour fundraiser stream today for the Smoky Mountain Animal Care Foundation. Also as a belated 1k follower celebration. We've finally got a date! For my 1k follower celebration, I'll be doing a 12 hour stream in benefit of the Smoky Mountain Animal Care Foundation. They're a regional animal shelter that Dizzy and I have worked with closely in the past. Their mission is providing medical care, nourishment and a safe environment for unwanted, stray, abused and impounded animals; educating the public about responsible companion animal ownership; investigating cases where animal care is questionable, and finding new loving homes for homeless animals. They work with neighboring counties to provide support services, as well as run transport programs with other shelters around the country to try to find homes for as many animals as possible.

For the stream, we'll be playing mostly animal-related games, as well doing some community gaming and giveaways throughout the day. Spread the word, and hope to see you guys there!

Hiya folks! I realize I've been a bit remiss about posting when I go live, mostly because Facebook has started not showing it when it includes a link to competing streaming services. Go figure.

That being said, I'm generally streaming Animal Crossing in the mornings, starting between 8 and 9 AM Eastern and going until I run out of things to do for the day. Come start your day with mostly wholesome cuteness!

So on the quarantine note.

Many of us are falling into really bad physical habits due to isolation and boredom. Eating too much, lack of exercise, etc. So here's my thing.

Get a VR headset. It doesn't cost as much as you think.

The Oculus Quest, while not super high horsepower, is entirely capable of playing most VR titles out there. It's a completely standalone device that doesn't require a gaming PC or even internet connection to use other than when you're downloading games. It can, however, also be connected to a gaming PC to take advantage of additional processing power, and gain access to the SteamVR library. There's also modding potential and etc.

I bring this up because the baseline Quest is $399. It's only got 64GB storage vs the 128GB model, but otherwise is identical, and honestly most VR games aren't super big. It should also be restocking shortly. This is basically the same cost as any other console, and that's what you should consider it.

Specifically, it's got a lot of games that will give you a hell of a workout without you realizing that's what you're doing. I burn roughly 10-12 kcal/minute just playing Beat Saber. That's equivalent to a treadmill or elliptical at a decent intensity, except I'm playing a game and having fun instead of trying to distract myself from how godawful exercise machines are. You don't have to go to a gym, you don't even need much space, and if you still don't feel like some room in your house has enough clear floor area you can take the Quest literally anywhere and use it if you don't mind people thinking you're a lunatic.

For those of you that own an even moderately capable desktop PC - there's a game called Tabletop Simulator that lets you play board/card/etc. games with your friends over the internet. I'm prolly going to fire it up occasionally over the next few weeks since having real life game nights is a not great idea. If anyone's down to play, lemme know and we'll get a time set up.

I have a ton of games for it - Munchkin, Cards Against Humanity, Betrayal, Heroquest, King of Tokyo, etc. I can also grab a lot of other stuff if people have interest. The only catch is that everyone has to own a copy of Tabletop Simulator itself.

So this year for Christmas some dear friends of mine decided to indulge my obsession with dehydrated meats via the JerkyGent box. I had no idea this even existed, although I should have, since I'm pretty sure there's a sub box for like... obscure crayons at this point.

Anyway, first one out of the box! Bourbon Franklin jerky by Righteous Felon!

Pleasantly surprised by how much was in the package - usually with smaller packages there's not a lot inside. Taste is delicious, the bourbon and vanilla notes come through very well. Good texture, about halfway between actual jerky and smoked beef. If this is indicative of the quality of the rest of the box, I'm going to thoroughly enjoy this.
