Additionally, the VDPCNA seeks uniforms for a distinct identity during patrols, and is advocating for streamlined registration processes for village defence committees to access necessary benefits. Following complaints about illegal activities at dwelling units intended for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in Lumphira Village, FKJGP Nongmensong Circle and FKJGP Shillong City inspected the area. The inspection revealed that the units, unoccupied for 15 to 16 years, have become havens for criminals. Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, responsible for the Urban Affairs Department, assured improvements during a meeting with FKJGP leaders. General Secretary Alan Kharkongor warned that if no action is taken to rectify the situation, the Federation will consider stronger measures, including shutting down the units.

The Khasi Students Union (KSU) South West Khasi Hills District has given the Power Department a one-month ultimatum to address safety concerns after the tragic electrocution of a 19-year-old from Rangblang Pombriew village. KSU Mawkyrwat Circle President Rutherford Lyngdoh criticized the negligence of authorities, recalling a previous incident where a minor lost both hands due to electrocution near a transformer. The Union demands compensation for the victim's family, the fencing of transformers in all villages, repair of deteriorating electrical posts and lines, and increased manpower for better monitoring. Lyngdoh expressed frustration over the department's ongoing failures to ensure public safety.

One youth identified as Jimwillson Thongni of Rangblang Pombriew village, South West Khasi Hills District lost his life after he was electrocuted under one post in one forest at the village near his house. Secretary of Rangblang Pombriew village, Bokstone Thongni informed that the incident happened on wednesday morning. After the incident, Thongni and the villagers have expressed anger against the MePDCL for its irresponsibility and negligence of duty despite being reported several times by the village authority about the damaged electric poles and electric lines which nearly touch the ground.

Shillong MP Ricky AJ Syngkon and Mawlai MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang yesterday inspected two significant road projects in Mawlai constituency, funded under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). During the inspection, the leaders, accompanied by PWD officials, assessed the ongoing construction of a 14.279-km road from Shillong city to Umroi Airport under NESIDS. They also reviewed progress on the 10-km PMGSY road from Lummawsing Mawtawar to Mawsiatkham. The MLA urged the contractor to adhere strictly to specifications, as some sections have shown quality issues.

The KHADC yesterday has decided to closely follow up with the state government to urge upon the Centre to bring an amendment to the constitution (Schedule Tribes) Order 1950 by recognising only the indigenous tribes as the scheduled tribes in Meghalaya.
