"I am passionate about psychology and the massive role it plays in our everyday lives. I want to share this information with you because it is a skill that can be developed, just as your skills in riding can be developed. Whether you are riding on the road, on the track, on dirt- whatever you are doing, utilising your psychology i.e your mindset, your self talk and your behaviours, to your advantage can have a positive impact on how you perform".

**Trigger Warning**

This article discusses domestic violence. This may be difficult for some readers and we ask you to take care if you choose to read on.

Riding a motorcycle is often seen as a liberating and empowering experience, and for women who have survived domestic violence, it can play a vital role in their healing and recovery. Domestic violence is a pervasive issue that affects millions of women worldwide, leaving them feeling trapped, afraid, and powerless. But for those who have found their way out of abusive relationships, the experience of riding a motorcycle can be a transformative one, helping them to reclaim their sense of self and rebuild their lives.

We all have at least one family member or friend that feels the need to remind us of the dangers of riding.

These comments generally stem from their own fear, but also love for you so it can be really difficult to know how to respond appropriately....

Roads that make you go “woo hoo” inside your helmet!
Thailand:
Forget the sun-filled, cocktail-fueled, bar-pumping coastal regions of the South. If you are looking for a holiday that combines your sense of adventure with your number one love (motorcycle riding), you need to head North... there is a magical road called Route 108 waiting for you and your borrowed steel companion to come over and play.

"I recently returned from a motorcycle tour in the north of Thailand. Thailand is hot. Some days we were riding in 35-degree temperatures (95F) with a healthy dose of humidity. I noticed that around 3pm each day, the energy levels of the whole group were consistently declining. I realised that dehydration may have been contributing to the mid-afternoon energy slump".

Approximately 2 months ago, I had an unfortunate accident. Nope, it didn’t involve a motorcycle. It didn’t even involve anyone else. It was just me and an esky on a slippery bit of ground. The esky won. My foot did not.

Crush injury + broken bone = 12 weeks recovery

I’d literally just finished an amazing day of riding at our company’s performance course and I was on top of the world. I was booked in to do my first track day the following week and I felt ready to go. BUT… the universe had other ideas in store for me.

Shortly I will be rounding out my eighth year of riding. When I think back to the start, and all the things I have learned in that time, I could easily create a triple digit list. But whose got time for that? Instead, I have selected eight things I have learned in my first eight years of riding.

"Every single time I doubt my ability but every time it's for no reason. May not be the quickest or the most skilled but who cares! Overcoming my own little challenges head on is such a good feeling! Confidence is key"✨️
Could not agree more. Sometimes women can be their own enemy of progress because doubt and unrealistic expectatations seep in. Girl Moto's thrive on the challenges!

Thanks for the advice and thanks for being this week's pic of the week 🙏

“Did you ship your bike over?” It’s the first question we’re asked when someone sees the Europe country stickers on Beauty’s windscreen (our 2008 BMW 1200 GS). Our answer is always, “Yes.” If you dream of a European adventure on two wheels, shipping your bike is totally possible … but is it the right option for you? This will very much depend on how long you intend to tour for.

In a few weeks’ time I get to participate in my first ever track day. Excited? Hell yes! Nervous? Even bigger Hell Yes! Loads of questions? Absolutely. Whenever I am doing something new, especially if that something new pushes me outside my comfort zone, I like to arm myself with as much information as I can. If you’re the same, then read on. Here is a breakdown of what it was like to be fitted for my track day leather race suit by hire gear supplier Ricondi.

I stood at the baggage claim, struggling to comprehend what was happening. “They lost it,” I thought to myself. I came all this way, over 2,000 miles (3200 kms) and literally across the country, and they had lost the one and only thing I needed for this trip – my track day leathers.

How does one decide on lowering motorcycle seat height? I know for me, the decision was made as I stood in a parking lot on a moto camping trip. Looking down at my Versys-x 300 lying on its side on the pavement, a flood of different emotions washed over me. Embarrassment as people ran over to help. Disappointment in myself and my ability to ride this motorcycle. And frustration that this kept happening – it wasn’t the first time I’d dropped this bike.

Today I had a lot of fun being fitted for a one-piece leather riding suit. In a few weeks I get to ride track for the first time as part of a ladies-only, beginners track group. I was fitted by Lisa Campbell from Race and Road Brisbane, as they are the supplier of Ricondi hire gear for this track day. Lisa gets to speak to lots of women about their riding. We had an interesting conversation about how many ladies are keen to try a track day, but often will stop themselves taking the leap. As women, does our lack of confidence sometimes hold us back?

I spend a lot of time participating in group rides as well as at the track. It got me thinking about how we develop as riders. I see lots of the same people over and over again showing up, consistently working towards their goals. What is it that helps these riders to have the motivation to keep coming back time and time again… what does it take to believe they can chase their unicorn!?
