✨started this in 2023. First book finished of 2024. Wasn't great...

📚BOOK REVIEW📚

✨'Global Strike' is the 3rd installment in the 'Strike Back' series by and it continues the adventures of John Bald and John Porter. Bald and Porter are 2 ex-blades: past members of the famous SAS regiment; now doing odd jobs for MI6. In 'Global Strike' an ex British spy goes missing after revealing he has incriminating evidence that threatens the American president and involves the Russians. The two are sent to America to retrieve the ex spy however, soon learn they are not the only ones looking for him!

✨This book was definitely better than its predecessor but not my favourite one in the series. I feel like there's less repetition in this book when it comes to descriptive writing, which really makes it a treat to read. The relationship between Bald and Porter strengthens a lot which is always nice to see and a VERY creative plot twist presents itself at the end.

📚BOOK REVIEW📚

✨ And that's another book finished in 2023. It's going to be hard to break my record!

✨With the conclusion of the second installment in the 'Strike Back' series, I remain stunned at the magic casted by Chris Ryan. Though not as good as it's predecessor (Death List), it still crafts an amazingly rich story.

✨John Porter and John Bald are both sent on a mission by MI5 to Sierra Leone, to extract the former CO of the SAS regiment. Though when both arrive, the CO is nowhere to be found. As they track him down, their paths diverge and a new mission presents itself to them. And the dangers they experience, are closer to home than they realise.

✨I feel as though the story wasn't as gripping as 'Death list' and that the character development was shunned. At the end of the prior story, it seems as though Porter and Bald have grew really close as friends and respect one another. It was one of the beautiful things about the book. Yet, in this one, it seems as though that has all been thrown away and they're back to square one. It's also a VERY action-heavy book. Which i know is ironic...but a few of the chapters did drag because of this.

✨ Despite this, I did laugh at some of the jokes that were made and the ending was VERY unexpected. Which I like.

📚BOOK REVIEW📚

✨I'm getting good at this. That's the second book I have finished within a week 😂

✨WOW! JUST...WOW! I really do find myself with an astounding sense of disbelief whenever I finish one of Chris Ryan's masterpieces. I am yet to read one that bores me! This story was gripping from start to finish and did and amazing job at tying everything together towards the end. For a military thriller, it made sure to answer all questions before the final sentence. Which is always greatly appreciated. Funny, depressing, intense and sickening. This story will deploy a vast array of emotions on you!

✨'Deathlist' is the first story in the 'Strike Back' series and follows two soldiers, instructors, whom are the only survivors on a vicious attack on SAS selection by a group of Serbian terrorists. Eventually, Bald and Porter, are approached by MI6 and tasked with hunting down and killing those responsible. Except...not everything goes to plan and some dangers appear closer to home than they realise!

📚BOOK REVIEW📚

✨I honestly do surprise myself with how quick I finish books sometimes, to say I used to be a VERY slow reader! I started this book on Monday...it is now Saturday!

✨In 400 pages, we see just how good Chris Ryan is at cultivating a rich and exciting military thriller. 'Hellfire' is the 3rd installment in the 'Danny Black' series. In the border between Syria and Iraq, there is a British hostage being held by a British extremist executioner. As Danny Black and a team are sent to rescue target red, they soon discover a weaponized plague that a terrorist leader known as 'The Caliph' intends to release on London. The team must stop the terrorists, identity who the caliph is, and stop the release of the weaponized plague!

✨I am overly happy with the ending. One that fits Danny Black perfectly. It was a pleasure to read full of twists and turns. Not one part was boring and the whole story was paced very well. I will say this was the more 'violent' installation in the series so far, but a gripping read nonetheless.

📚BOOK REVIEW📚

✨Chris Ryan continues to obliterate the writing scene with another gut-clenching military thriller. 'Osama' (I'll give you a guess as to why it's called that) takes place shortly after the 9/11 attacks. As the American SEAL team swoop into the compound in Abbottabad to take out the target, a few members of the British special forces SAS are tasked with setting up a cordon around the area. One thing leads to another and sergeant Joseph Mansfield ends up seeing something he shouldn't. What he sees, causes himself and his family to be targeted. Now, whilst trying to survive, Mansfield must uncover the secrets he witnessed on that fatal day to prove his innocence and save lives.

✨The writing was excellent as always. There's a reason I like Chris Ryan's works so much. His talent at describing the smallest detail in an entertaining way is excellent. And, as expected, the ending was INCREDIBLE and leaves you mostly satisfied with how it all turns out. And, the premise of the story is extremely interesting.

✨But that's about all I can say in a positive aspect. Unfortunately, this book took FAR too long for anything interesting to happen. It was definitely a slow burner and took a while for the story to truly kick off. It's also...quite sad? PTSD was explored heavily in this book and, whilst I appreciate the insight into such a traumatic thing many veterans go through, reading it was extremely difficult. It was emotionally painful to see what effect it can have on those around you. Also, I felt as though there needed to be less filler. There were a few paragraphs, some even whole pages, where it felt like it was simply there to make the book thicker.

✨ Overall I enjoyed the book but, out of the many Chris Ryan books I've read so far, this is probably my least favourite.

📚BOOK REVIEW📚

✨And that's book number 12 done of 2023! I have already hit my reading goal, with 4 months left!

✨ This is the first Andy McNab book I have read and it certainly won't be the last! I highly recommend this as a 'first read' for anyone looking to get into military thriller. It's simple to follow, suspenseful, extremely hilarious (military humour) and keeps a good pace.

✨'Red Notice' is set during a hostage situation where a group of South Ossetian fighters/terrorists have captured the Eurostar, a train from the UK to France. They have 400 hostages under their grip which cause both the UK and France to scramble a response, inflicting casualties in the process. However, certain circumstances cause an off-duty member of the SAS, Tom Buckingham, to be on the train due to personal reasons. Weaponless and alone, he must utilise his military training to get in contact with the outside world and take out Laszlo, the leader of the terrorist group.

✨As you'd expect, it ends on a cliff hanger but, at the same time, offers a satisfying ending to this first installment in the Tom Buckingham Trilogy!

📚BOOK REVIEW📚

✨Wow. That's all I can muster to say. Just...wow. Finishing this book has made it my 11th read of 2023. 'The Liars Key' is the second book in the 'Red Queens War' Trilogy and continues the adventures of Jalan and Snorri from the cold and bitter ices of the North, to the metropolis of rich merchants in the city of Florence in the South.

✨This was miles better than the first installment and made it exceptionally difficult to put the book down. It does an excellent job at managing to consistently portray the protagonist as a coward and a thief but still offering segments where his potential as a hero shines through.

✨ I'm actually finding it difficult to say anything bad about the book as the story was gripping, the flow consistent and the character development satisfying. There's also a lot of humour that made me smile at points. I highly recommend getting into this Trilogy.

📚BOOK REVIEW 📚

✨And that's book number 9 of 2023! I'm getting better 😂 'Prince of Fools' is a story that traverses many planes of the broken empire. Across mountains and fields, through woodlands and over dangerous oceans. It's a story that offers a beautiful description of a fantastic Fantasy setting. ✨

✨The story follows Jalan Kendreth: a liar, cheat and coward. We are constantly shown at every interval, that he would rather run away from his problems than face them. Yet, when he is forced upon a dangerous task that means almost certain death, he has little choice but to push on.✨

✨He becomes paired with a Viking from the North, Snorri Ver Snagason. Two total opposites are seen teamed together to battle overwhelming odds.✨

✨This was a great read. I must admit, it started off very slow. My only issues with the book was how long it took to kick the story off but, also, how many characters were introduced in one go. It made keeping track of them rather difficult. In a 502 page book, the story starts to pick up and get extremely interesting after about page 80. But trust me when I say this: it's definitely worth a read. It ends on such a high note and leaves you begging for more. And those who are fans of the previous Trilogy (set in the same world), 'The Broken Empire' trilogy, will be pleasantly treated to some interesting cameos! ✨

✨ Overall, it's a great book. Mark Lawrence continues to shine and his skills at carrying a story and descriptive writing evolve into pure monumental treat! It's really interesting seeing Jalan, a coward and a cheat, fighting alongside Snorri, a noble and strong warrior, as it shows many conflicts of interest and helps keep the pace of the story going.✨

📚 BOOK REVIEW📚

✨And with that, I have OFFICIALLY broken my personal record! I'm quite a slow reader BUT, with 5 months of 2023 remaining, I have finished book number 8! Setting a new amount of books read within a year! ✨

✨'Hunter Killer' by is a book that refuses to let you put it down. I've lost sleep over this read but it paid off! This story is full of military banter, heart destroying turns, mind blowing twists and...most importantly, an extremely satisfying ending! ✨

✨Danny Black is exactly what you'd expect from a hard man 22SAS soldier. He's cold, calculating and ruthless. But what this book does really well is showing that, underneath all the metaphoric armour, he's just as human as the rest of us. This protagonist is an interesting character that really leaves us begging for more. And to my satisfaction...I've just found out there's another SEVEN books following Black himself! Money is about to be spent! ✨

✨'Hunter Killer' follows a story surrounding a series of terrorist attacks in London that eventually lead to a top secret cover mission orchestrated by members of MI5/MI6 and the CIA. Danny Black, and his best mate Spud, are tasked with eliminating the terrorists but their mission soon leads them on a hunting mission to Yemen. ✨

✨I was first introduced to Chris Ryan when I read 'Outcast' a few months ago. His work inspires me greatly✨
