Wellness Tip: Journal every morning

📌Save this tip for later. You'll be happy to have a list of pick-me-ups to pull from.

Based on the techniques in Julia Cameron's book, The Artist's Way, I stream of consciousness write three pages in my journal every morning when I wake up. I write everything that comes to my mind for three whole pages.📝

The goal is to brain-dump everything in your mind so you can uncover the important stuff. The goal is also to discover and prioritize your needs, interests, and desires so you can find a small way to make them happen.💚

My favorite part of the technique outlined in the book is never rereading any of the writing. Get it out and move on. The key is to keep moving because it is the journey and discovery that becomes so valuable in the day-to-day.

Through my journaling, I've increased my confidence and belief in myself. We've all talked about overcoming imposter syndrome. I've found that journaling helps, along with the commitment to quit negative self-talk.❤️

Do you have a journaling practice? What are your techniques? How has it helped you?

Book Recommendation: The Afrominimalist's Guide to Living with Less by Christine Platt

If you've ever felt like you have more stuff than you need, you may have entertained the principles of minimalism. From a quick search on minimalism, you would think your entire wardrobe, house, and aesthetic must be beige, black, white, grey, and boring.🤍

Christine shows us that we can be bold and cultural while expressing our minimalist lifestyle, describing herself as an Afro-Minimalist. She explores how the overwhelm in her life led her to explore minimalism and the steps she took to declutter her home, life, and mind.🗑

This book is an excellent resource for Black women who don't see themselves reflected in the mainstream minimalist conversation. She's a great example because representation matters.

How do you feel about minimalism? If you read this book, what was your takeaway?

Wellness Tip: Meditate with Insight Timer

📌Save this tip for later. You'll be happy to have a list of pick-me-ups to pull from.

Using the Insight Timer app at bedtime has been such a game-changer. I'm usually a night owl,🦉 but with this meditation app, my mind can slow down at night. I started using this app for the daily quotes, but I've discovered so much more.

Every time I open the app, it refreshes the list of meditations. Because of this, I take time at different points of the day to save as many meditations by Black women instructors as possible. I love having a long list of Black women instructors to research and learn more about.❤

Do you have a meditation practice? What are your techniques? How has it helped you?

Book Recommendation - Feeding the Soul (Because It's My Business): Finding Our Way to Joy, Love, and Freedom by Tabitha Brown

Mrs. Tab is so patient and so kind. She shares her origin story in this book, and we can see how her sweet demeanor has developed over time.

I loved learning that Tab has been pursuing her acting career for over 20 years. I'm even more happy for her because she has been fine-tuning her integrity over time, which prepared her for her rise to success today.❤

I love reading memoirs of performers because the story of perseverance and faith is universal amongst all artists and creatives. Her book was inspirational, and I'm so glad I got to listen to the audiobook in her voice.

How do you feel about celebrity memoirs? If you read this book, what was your takeaway?

Wellness Tip: Get a library card 📚

Libraries not only offer physical books, but they also offer audiobooks and eBooks using their mobile apps, hoopla digital and Libby App

This discovery has been such a highlight and source of joy in my life this year.💚

You can read any genre of books you want, and you can rent several books a month.

Yes, I love business books, but I also love fiction books, memoirs, and art books.💙

I've loved joining social media book groups and gaining recommendations from there. There is no better feeling than renting and finishing a book for free! Podcasts are cool, but books are even better.

Share some book recommendations in the comments. I’m always looking for a new read.
