Hey Village,

Why does it seem that vulgarity and absurdity are the only two camps to which content gains traction?

I get that there’s an audience for almost anything but it seems that no matter the platform two forms of content rain “dominate”.

Which brings me to my original point.

So content creators seemingly are left trying to “reinvent the wheel” by putting their unique spins on something that’s highlighting or celebrating something that is either s*xually explicit/vulgar or making commentary on something that’s completely absurd!

There’s the rare occasion where I’ve seen that once an audience has been cultivated content creators are able to break out this repetitive narrative but until then it’s simply wash and repeat.

Content that’s either: Vulgar/explicit or absurd.

Are these just my observations alone?

Hey Village,

You ever catch yourself about to say, “well if you only did this or didn’t do whatever have you then you wouldn’t have a problem”. Only to realize that IF life were that simple you’d have your own foolishness straightened out?

Happy Sunday FUN Day Village!

Listen, keeping a straight face with Isabella this morning is already proving to be a task! But I’ve told myself in my “me time” this morning that I was going to practice “not stressing over the small stuff”!

Our conversation:
Isabella: “Mom I don’t want to be on punish-SH*T for not listening”!

Me: What? (Because I admit I wasn’t actively listening. I just heard the tail end of the question!)

Isabella: Repeats

Me: Well if you plan to listen and obey then I don’t see why you will have negative consequences.

Isabella: So no punish-SH*T if Bella is good?

Me: Deep sigh…. Yes Bella.

Hey Village,

I feel the need to bring attention to a taboo hot topic…. Amidst the festivities of the holiday season, there's an epidemic of silence that often goes unnoticed, especially in our culture. Behind the facade of merriment, many battle the weight of unspoken struggles. Whether it's the expectations placed upon us or the fear of disrupting the holiday harmony, we find ourselves enveloped in a quiet struggle.

Let's break the silence and acknowledge that the holidays aren't always a picture-perfect postcard. It's crucial to create spaces for open conversations about mental well-being, family dynamics, and the very real pressures we face. This season, let's encourage each other to share, support, and embrace the complexities that come with the holidays. 💬🎄❄️

Hey Village,

I don’t know who needs to hear this but there’s POWER in embracing your actual experience.

🌆 Deep in the city’s concrete jungles, to small towns and even in the gated communities of our nation, many of us, regardless of social or economic status, silently navigate the shadows of hardship. We put on a brave face as we bear the weight of all that life can throw at us. Society has this twisted notion that enduring suffering in silence somehow defines our character, but let me share an alternative to this narrative.

❌ We need to break free from this toxic mindset. It's time to shed the facade and embrace the totality of our experience. Not just the highlights that make for good social media posts. Our strength lies not in bottling up our pain, but in the courage to face it and even when appropriate to share it. This is where discernment comes in.

🙌🏾 Real talk, being resilient doesn't mean we have to hide our setbacks or act like we're invincible. It means acknowledging our struggles and seeking support when we need it. There's no shame in saying, "I'm not okay and I need support". It takes true strength of character to embrace vulnerability.

💯 We’re not here to just endure, but to thrive. Being authentic, kind-hearted individuals also means advocating for ourselves and others. It’s about creating a community, or village as I often say, where we uplift each other, amplifying voices and speaking truth, choosing to be intentional about breaking the cycle of sitting in silence.

✨So, let's flip the script. We can choose to rewrite the narrative and break free from the chains of silence. We deserve better, and we shouldn’t settle for less. Together, we can rise above, paving the way for a brighter, more united future. After all being transparent about something you’ve overcome or something you’re currently navigating might be the thing that brings hope.

Written with hope and love with a full belief in a brighter future for each of us.

🖤✨ Embracing the beautiful complexities of love 🖤✨

In a world that often romanticizes fleeting connections, it's essential to honor the true strength and depth of long-term relationships. Let’s be clear, once the love is real and has stood a few tests that has now culminated into a length of time the focus shifts. It’s no longer a question of if there’s love. It’s clear love is there. The question now to be considered: is love enough to weather the difficulties and challenges that come often on the other side of the passion? Long-term relationships aren't just a mere test of love; they are a profound testament to our character and resilience.

Like the rhythm of a soulful melody, love has its highs and lows, its twists and turns. It's in these moments that we learn the power of patience, understanding, and compromise—the elements that weave together the tapestry of a lasting bond.

Our journey as individuals shapes our journey as a couple, celebrating our ethnic roots, our unique heritage, and the vibrant tapestry of our shared experiences. It's in our unity that we find strength, grounding ourselves in the richness of our culture and embracing the diversity that defines us.

Love dances to its own beat, sometimes slow and sensuous, other times wild and untamed. It's a rhythmic flow that calls to our ancestral roots, embracing the beauty of our ethnic vibes and infusing our relationship with a special kind of magic.

Through the challenges we face and the hurdles we overcome, we discover the true essence of our connection. We learn that love is not just about the euphoric moments, but also the quiet strength we exhibit during the storms, supporting each other and being intentional about growing together.

So let us celebrate the love that intertwines our spirits. May we continue to nurture our relationships with patience, compassion, and unwavering commitment, knowing that it's in the depths of our character that our love truly shines.

✨🖤 Together, we create a love story that beautifully embodies all of who we are as a unit while equally celebrating one another’s individuality and the remarkable power of long-term devotion. ✨🖤

🚨Long post alert!🚨

Moment of transparency. I find it incredibly difficult to say, “hey I need help”. So I decided to dig deep and here are a few things I’m learning. As I approach forty years old with the quickness… I’m realizing that this particular challenge isn’t completely self made. In other words, the feelings of inadequacy and doubt that threaten to cut off my oxygen at times didn’t develop in a vacuum. Looking back on my life, I received a plethora of messages all saying some variation of “you have to be a STRONG Black woman”. There was NEVER any alternative there was only, “you HAVE to be the best”. This ideology was further ingrained by my choice of career in Broadcast Journalism. It’s no secret that TV News is cut throat, incredibly demanding and competitive. You might be thinking ok Tasha, you’re getting off topic. Hold tight…. I promise I’m going somewhere. My point here is that this career choice and every subsequent change I’ve made has landed me in working environments where I feel like I’m in a perpetual state of having to “PROVE” I belong which has continued to foster this idea that in order to be deemed “WORTHY” I have to be the “BEST”. Well contrary to popular opinion, I have come to the realization that I don’t have a setting on myself where I can operate in a state of “BEST” in all area’s at all times. I can’t ALWAYS be the best friend, best partner, best mom, best family member and best employee and the list goes on….ALL 👏🏾 the 👏🏾 time. Whew… that was hard to type and even harder to come to terms with! But listen now that I’m here. I figured other’s might also find themselves in a similar place and I want you to know you’re not alone in this struggle!

I no longer will subscribe to any further programming that says that in order to be the “WORTHY” I must be the “BEST” everything to everyone in my life at all times. So I’m making a conscious decision to CHOOSE peace! In the meantime grant me some understanding as I continue to navigate this thing called life being my most authentic self.

xo,
Tasha 💜

UNPOPULAR OPINION:

You won’t get CHOSEN or PROMOTED doing more work! I’ve found this to be true both personally and professionally. Listen Sis, you can do all the EXTRA whatever have you that you want. Nothing will shift unless there is an alignment between what you want and what is being offered be it in a relationship or in a work setting.

For ages we as women have been duped into thinking that if only we change this or do that or be this our hard work will be seen, valued and rewarded. Sadly, this isn’t the case more often than not. Don’t believe me look at the latest statistics on the gender wage gap! Case in point, we can show up early and stay late and always offer to help and be overlooked for promotion year after year. The same can be said in the relationship arena. Doing more in silence in a relationship dynamic with the hope to EARN more love, time and attention won’t net you what you want. In most cases, what ends up happening is that we feel taken for granted vs what we initially set out to gain by trying to be and do it all for the one or one’s we love. So before you take on more WORK or roles STOP and strategize about how this choice will impact you.

When I say you, I mean consider ALL that you are emotionally, physically, professionally, spiritually and psychologically. Believe it or not the choices that we make personally and professionally either assist or detract from the complete YOU we are all striving to be! With that, celebrate all that you have overcome while looking forward to all that’s ahead! You got this! Happy Women’s History Month Ladies!

Thank you for coming to this Ted Talk!

Signed,

A Working Mom.

Hey Village,

Topic: Gaslighting in love…

Being gaslit seems to be a buzz word these days. Being the recent recipient of this phenomenon opened my eyes to a few things… So I figured I’d share. First of all, don’t EVER allow someone to tell you that what you’re feeling isn’t valid or that it’s not a thing. It’s perfectly fine to disagree or to have a different perspective. But to look someone in the eye that you care about and for them to tell you that what you’re experiencing is a figment of your imagination cuts DEEP AF!

I feel like it’s an act of BRAVERY to look that same person in the eye and tell them how you feel and for them to receive it. Oftentimes, the male gender is mislead into believing that we as women seek their counsel for the purposes of a solution but in MOST cases we as women just want to talk about our feelings. For me, talking or writing about my feelings is therapeutic. Which I’m sure is no surprise to anyone who know’s me.

Signs of GASLIGHTING:
✨Actions don’t match words
✨Lies even in the face of proof
✨Being told you’re wrong, crazy
✨Making you question your LIVED reality

I could go on but you see my point. I don’t think there’s a one size fits all solution. But I’m discovering that when I speak or write about how I’m feeling, those acts alone is me advocating for my peace! Bottom line, I don’t believe ANYONE has it figured out all the way including guru’s, life coaches and therapists or your best friend. Life isn’t cut and dry so why would love be? I try to lead always by acknowledging I’m a work in progress and so is my understanding of self and by extension the world around me. The older I get the more I realize just how much I don’t know.

Also, those that claim to know it all or have it all figured out in my experience are a whole ass lie…. Or a jerk but either way… You get the picture. Understand if you’ve ever been made to feel your experience is purely a creation of your imagination, realize how YOU feel is valid.

08/02/2022

Hey Village,

Topic: What to do when LIBIDO goes by the way side

Ok I feel it’s time we NORMALIZE the fact that women WANT s*x but just ANY s*x but the mind altering, full body or**sm type where time seems to evaporate type S*X! Let’s also admit that every and I do mean EVERY relationship has ebbs, dips, valleys and peaks! In recent conversations with both genders I’ve come to the conclusion that grown ass adults are having issues communicating their needs or the changes in their s*x drive.

So if this is you, know you’re NOT alone. As a mom, I know my mind can sometimes be on a MILLION things in a day and depending on how things went thinking about being penetrated or being touched intimately might not even make the list. What I want to do is encourage you to have the difficult conversations. I also think it’s worth saying that just because there’s less s*x doesn’t mean that it’s anyone’s fault. After all, we all are managing a hell of a lot.

I’ve found it useful to be intentional about setting aside time to connect. This doesn’t mean that s*x will happen at the appointed time but at least you and your significant other can know that each week there’s time to be in one another’s space for a reason outside of logistics and hone related tasks.

Love is nice but it’s a LONG road if you’re doing it right! Take your time and share when your needs shift. Trust your lover or spouse will LOVE you for choosing to make connecting with then a priority!

08/02/2022

Hey Village,

Being that it’s Black History month, I felt what BETTER time to discuss WHITE privilege? I want to lead with saying, those that know me that I have many white allies in my professional life and I also have close friendships with White people. So this isn’t a hit piece on White people. I’m writing on this topic, because it needs to be discussed. White privilege needs to be dismantled! The concept that one receives preferential treatment when it comes to education, access to housing, and overall equality in the work place and life is problematic especially given the fact that it’s 2022.

White privilege is in the headlines for a few different reasons recently. The U.S. Supreme Court will soon deliberate on race-conscious college admissions. Being that the majority of the Supreme Court is leaning toward Conservatives, the belief is that this could be the case to effectively END affirmative action. To be clear Affirmative action is a means of evening out the playing field especially as it pertains to Ivy League academic institutions or in the work place. In the work place, it’s called “Diversity Hire’s”.

I’m beyond bothered, first of all ANY minority that has benefited from Affirmative action has absolutely EARNED their place. So let’s dispel that right now. Additionally, Diversity Hire’s is necessary in top tier organizations because for some odd reason apparently without Diversity being a thing that is encouraged business’s are fine to hire and perpetually ONLY hire other White people. What I want to underscore, is the fact that allowing a pathway to equality isn’t going to somehow turn the world upside down!

I’m going to continue to watch the headlines and bring attention to these matters because apparently these and other issue’s facing us as BPOC will continue to be ignored. So what can you do as a White Ally? First of all you can, speak UP when you see workplace discrimination or better yet you can intentionally look for a BPOC or POC to include in your life on whatever level be it personally or professionally. Bottom line we all can help but it starts with first acknowledgment that there’s a problem in the first place!

06/02/2022

Hey Village,

It’s SELF CARE Sunday! Today, I wanted to take a moment to speak on the intersection of YONI wellness and pleasure! I completely reject the notion that we should avoid pleasure as women. Rather, I feel we should discover all the many entryways to our individual pleasure!

Before, I proceed there might be NEW followers who are unfamiliar with the term YONI. YONI is the sanskrit word for all that is the vaginal region. This weekend, I took time to intentionally explore and rediscover what I LOVE about my YONI! It’s easy to take for granted the seat of our feminine physical energy! Many of us ignore our YONI’s until something is the matter with it! I want to challenge you to take time to look at your YONI!

I want you to really take time to touch YOURSELF and to take a deep breath and see what feels good to you today! You might notice that the pressure and touch you once liked no longer hits the spot and that’s exactly as it should be. You are a thriving, evolving, being and so why would the way you want to be pleasured remain stagnant?
