We recently spent 3 nights at Andaz Mayakoba in the Riviera Maya. Last year, thanks to the previous Hyatt/MGM relationship, we earned Hyatt Globalist status. I had a free night certificate that was going to expire and used that with an additional 29k points per night to book. Upon arrival we were upgraded into a beach area room and on the last night, we were upgraded further into an oceanfront plunge pool suite. As Globalists, breakfast was included and was an incredible buffet spread. Food at this hotel was pricy but incredible. Catch our full tour on YouTube and follow us for more!

I never wanted to go to Dubai, but I am so glad we did! I was able to travel here almost exclusively on points. We had such an amazing time and I hope to go back one day. Here are a few things we did:

Pic 1. We stayed 2 nights at Al Maha Desert Resort outside of Dubai. I booked using Marriott points. Our stay included camel riding at sunset!

Pic 2. Burj Khalifa. We went up to the highest observation area and got incredible views.

Pic 3. We visited the Dubai Miracle Garden. This was a fun afternoon walking through some incredible displays including Smurf Village!

Pic 4. Enrique had to pick up his oil $ from his family... okay, they had a setup at the Dubai Mall! 🤣 Speaking of the Dubai Mall, that was incredible!

Pic 5. Thanks to points, we flew home in Emirates first class (dream come true) and hung out at the bar.

I'm planning a trip with extended family for later this year. We know we want to go to the Cancun/Riviera Maya area, but the group is pretty open otherwise. Here are some questions that I am asking and things I am considering to make this a great trip for everyone:

1. Who is going? We have adults, small kids, and big kids traveling. So, when looking at hotels I want to be sure they check boxes for each age group.

2. What is most important to the group? Luckily, they all agree that they are looking for a nice beach and are less worried about the food options and room categories. This helps narrow things down.

3. How much can each family unit spend? This can get pricy if I let it and not everyone will have the funds to splurge. Keeping the costs reasonable will allow more people to go. Those who want to splurge can upgrade their room if they wish.

4. Is there one or two activities or excursions that the group is interested in? Planning much more than that will cause problems on a big family trip. You want to have some time as a large group, but other than maybe a day trip and a dinner could be too much. People in the group will gather naturally, but they aren't forced into doing so. It's okay for the group to do different things!

5. Go with the flow! Things will go wrong and you can't feel upset or guilty about it. Make adjustments as needed and move on. Everyone will have a great time and things will work themselves out.
