This is Charley Ward one of my little superstars his race number is 127 which he chose himself for the following reasons , always inspire to be number 1, 2nd born child and he was 7 years old when he decided he wanted to not play in a puddle of water by the track but to actually give it a go himself like his big brother, he started on a pit bike but then recently found his own passion when he rode his GP bike. I love being his coach and mentor beside him giving him little steps to aim for , he listens to the advice and then goes out to try what we have discuss and then comes in for even more feedback , he loves maths at school and when asked for charity money at school he says “charity begins at home” thats Charley to a T a cheeky funny little chap. He loves rock climbing ,swimming and anything really outdoors (lockdown has been a nightmare for his mum and dad) Oh and he doesn’t like cats lol (he is more of a dog person)
I have been with Charley from the start of his transition on to the GP bike. Myself and his dad (Barry) have helped him completely change his riding style for the GP bike. He rides in the 90cc class but the 1st time we put him on this bike it had a 140cc engine in it and oh boy did he love the power. He went around Whilton mill like a different kid we knew then it was the right move for him.
He has not looked back since his 1st race weekend on it at Whilton qualified 3rd & finished 2nd in the race
Then onto Three Sisters qualified 2nd & finished 3rd in the race
We struggled at Three Sisters as Charley can not quite change gears yet on the GP bike so riding in 4th gear lost him some time in the slower parts of the track but he never gives up just keeps on pushing.
Roll on the next round at whilton mill where we will put what he is learning now into practice.
To round it off, it is a pleasure to spend time with Charley as he really listens and is such a lovely kid oh and did I mention the boy is a trooper flat out crash head first into the tyre wall at whilton on a practice evening, 2 days in hospital and the boy was back the following week pushing even harder.
