The holidays often feel like "tis the season for grieving" am I right? There are so many triggers for our grief, around every corner. So many reminders of all the things and people we have lost; memories of what could have been and what we no longer have. It's exhausting! I hope you find some comfort in this reminder. Hang in there.

A reminder that we are entering the Holiday Season, which can be incredibly difficult and triggering for many of us. Holidays remind us of strained relationships, family disconnection and loved ones who have passed, among many other things. Be kind to yourself during this time. It's ok to put yourself first. It's ok to say no and establish boundaries.

I dare to dream of a world where we are trauma-informed. A world where we can recognize what has happened to people to cause them to act in behave in certain ways. A world where we recognize the way the systems have been set up in a way that does not honor the trauma they have experienced. A world where we collectively work to build a better way.

Not to bring the mood down, but seriously. When will enough be enough? We don't have to live in a world where we lose brilliant artists, creatives, industry workers to something that could have been PREVENTED.

We must never stop talking about the importance of reducing stigma and assisting people to access proper mental health support.

I have shared my story before, but there's quite a bit more of you following my page since then, so I'm sharing again!

I have a genetic predisposition to depression and anxiety. When I was a little girl my mother suffered from intense depression. I have memories of bringing her tissues when I was 5 or 6, confused as to why she was crying. I think at a young age, these experiences helped me to develop a strong sense of empathy which later helped me blossom into a social worker.

When I was 7 years old my parents divorced and my father was largely absent. My mother worked three jobs to make ends meet. Times were rough, but she always managed to put food on the table and clothes on our back.

My mother managed to do all this, raising two little girls, while battling major depression.

Society teaches us that depression is a sign of weakness, when in fact it takes incredible strength to live daily battling symptoms that make you feel incredibly disabled.

If you relate to my story, I am here to tell you that you are not alone and there is hope. Therapy is often a great first step, but if you are not feeling ready, a visit to your primary care doctor may be a good alternative. There are many treatment options. You do not need to continue to suffer.

Ja’ire has an extensive background in sales and marketing, building, and promoting brands, and formulating skillful and targeted approaches to increase consumer and business engagement. Her work experience spans across various industries including entertainment, health and wellness, sustainability, and behavioral sciences giving her a unique ability to empathize, connect, foster strong relationships, and ensure strategic goals are met. Her upbringing was spent facilitating community programs serving underprivileged and disadvantaged communities. She is LGBTQIA+ affirmative and a social justice advocate for BIPOC communities. Her holistic health perspective, empowerment, mindfulness, and individualized solution-oriented approach help her clients to dig deeper to find clarity and courage, and to implement essential tools to attain their goals. It's just me here, sharing more of the questions that keep me up at night.

How do folx who deal with traumatic content receive support?!

I've asked this question many times in my interviews and the answer is usually the same. "I hope I have a good director." "I'm lucky to have a good support system."

But what if those things don't exist?

THERE IS A BETTER WAY.

I have been in the mental health industry for 18+ years. 10 of those years I have worked as a Social Worker and therapist. Dismantling mental health stigma has always been important to me. Engaging in social justice work has also equally been as important to me.

Living in Los Angeles and having a partner in who is an actor has put me adjacent to the entertainment industry and I have had a first hand look at the lack of mental health awareness and support that exists for creatives in the industry.

I am committed to doing my part to engage in a movement that better supports the artists that create our entertainment. I dream of a trauma-informed Hollywood where mental health is prioritized.

Will you join me? Together we are stronger. Together, we can DEMAND change.

Did you know that October is depression and anxiety awareness month?

Did you also know that according to a recent study, during the pandemic 42% of adults reported experiencing anxiety and depression? That number is up 11% from pre-pandemic research. Another study found that in the US, rates of depression and anxiety are 3 x higher than pre-pandemic rates.

I suspect these numbers are not entirely accurate given the prevalence of mental health stigma that continues to persist in our society.

The studies found factors contributing to the increased rates of anxiety and depression include: social isolation, fear of illnesses, tension among families in lockdown together and rapid adjustment to a constantly changing environment.

I have said many times, and I will say it as long as it needs to be heard: depression and anxiety are NORMAL responses to being human and experiencing loss, change and adjustment.
