Today I figured I would talk about some of my favorite, most enjoyable parts of my day: YouTube cooking channels. Theres something about someone making things from scratch, then seeing them enjoy the things they've created. I cant get over it, so I had to talk about it.
Edit provided by: kimberlific- it appears Josua's birthday was in January, and he's 25

Making things is an art form. Now whether that be buildings, videos, crafts, is irrelevant. Its art.
I bring it up because making food is an art, crafting meals from nothing more than a few ingredients and creating a delicious delicacy, that's what I'm talking about. I love cooking channels. Being able to show off a table of ingredients, and putting something wonderful together, that's what I live for.
My viewing habits with cooking channels began with, like many, Binging with Babish. If you don't know what that is, He recreates recipes featured in film, television, and video games in the Binging with Babish series, as well as more traditional recipes in the Basics with Babish series.his link is in the description. Babish does things in a fantastic way, he typically picks a food shown in a TV show, and then makes it for real, showing off what it would be like to both create that thing, and then eat it in real life.
Typically He shoots his videos from the neck down, offering no distractions with his face, letting you experience the food making process as if you were there doing it yourself. He lets his body do the work, only using his voice to convey what exactly is happening on screen.
Babish does this series too, called “Being With Babish” where he, in his words, “cook's travels and eats his way around the city and the world.” Its shot documentary style, so i'm already all about it, but they also get the storytelling perfectly every time.
His thumbnails are top notch too, minimal, showing you exactly what to expect. This style is wonderful, and I’ve spent hours watching his videos. Some could even say, I spent a lot of time “Binging with Babish”
Of course I still watch binging with babish, but recently my friend also showed me a youtuber named Joshua Weissman, Now Weissman, like Babish, has amazing, simple thumbnails, and based off of the thumbnails you would expect his videos to be a lot like Babish’s, but no.
Weissmann’s Videos are of course similar, but he’s got a totally different style than Babish, his videos have more comedy, and a lot of cuts you would see in a typical gaming video from someone like fitz, without all the dark comedy. And of course he’s only 21, two years younger than me. “F**K WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE(in the background)”
He does a series called “But Better” where he takes a fast food item, tries it, explains what he does and doesnt like about the item, and then makes it better than the fast food restaurant
Josh is the kind of person I could hang out with, he’s funny, he’s a bro, you know? Thats why I like his content, he’s relatable. I'm not fat per say but I’ve struggled with weight loss. Josh also has had a weight loss story, and he actively shares that when its applicable, which I appreciate. Its things like that that make the youtuber more of a person. I have one more chef I want to talk about, and his name is Alvin Zhou. I don't have a transition for this, so just check this out. (10 seconds or so of his video)
I… LOVE this. Oh my god, the first video I watched of Alvins was his 100 hour lasagna video, and I fell in love, not with Alvin, though, I… Anyway. The way these videos are shot are absolutely gorgeous. It’s shot like a movie, the color grading is just gorgeous. This is the kind of video I put on to relax.
Also, Alvin doesn't talk in his videos. Occasionally you’ll hear him squeak or squeal, but thats because he’s excited. Other than that, its just music, cooking, and quite frankly, a short film every single time he puts together a video. . I never thought I’d be pulled so deep into a world that I have zero skill in. I love cooking channels, and so should you. As always, thank you for watching. If you want to check out my other video essays, click the card above, or check out this one in the end card. I appreciate you, and I’ll see you soon.
