This is the most clearest picture of Pluto ever taken! It was taken recently by the New Horizons planetary probe. This image was captured with the Ralph imaging instrument. The surface of the payment is a cool -400 degrees and from this angle it looks like the moon of Europa or Jupiter II. The red could be copper, the blue could be copper sulphate or cobalt. We’ll find out more as we explore this planet on the farthest side of our Solar System even further over the next decade or so.

Do you know why the Moon and the Sun appear with the same size in our sky? Though the Sun is 400 times further than the Moon, its diameter is also 400 times bigger. This means the apparent sizes of the Moon and the Sun are the same as seen from Earth! This is why total eclipse are possible. However, the Moon is moving away from us 3,8cm per year, and so total eclipses will, one day, disappear.

Did you know? There are windows on the moon 😁.
Astronauts have positioned them there so that laser beams can shoot at them and reflect back. In this way, it was possible to determine the distance to the moon, to within a few meters.
On this image you can see the famous Clavius crater. The crater measures about 225 km in diameter. Inside it there are a lot of craters of different sizes.
