The GRAND OPENING - and nobody came.
All those shiny desks and chairs...empty. Not a soul in sight.
We reached out to friends, acquaintances and people we never met.
FINALLY - we got 3 clients! Second month? - 5. By the third we had 11.
After the fourth and fifth month we not only broke even but made a profit (a decent one too).
We didn’t have enough seats in the office to fit everyone so people had to pull up chairs from another room and keep their stuff on their laps.
So what that MASSIVE shift?
We learned the power of marketing.
No more handing out flyers at the train station.
No more cold emails asking for collaborations.
No more cheap tricks like 70% OFF.
No more struggle for business.
Our only struggle was replying to all the leads. And customers. And sales.
Of course that created other issues like scaling & hiring (but that’s a good problem to have).
There were days with 12-15 appointments (high ticket sales) where we would PRAY not to get any walk-ins. Our prayers weren’t answered...we would have all stay, trained and untrained, closing deals. Two at a time in the office, two in the meeting room, another in the conference room.
Heck, we’d have to fight and line up for the EFTPOS machine to charge the customers.
With our original business running on autopilot, we needed a new mission.
