Shubh Diwali !!! 🙏

As we welcome our divine mother Lakshmi into our homes, May the blessings of Maa Lakshmi preserve your wealth and unveil new opportunities of prosperity in your life.
Let this Diwali burn all your bad times and enter you in good times."

Lakshmi the goddess of wealth, prosperity, auspiciousness, and good fortune, and the wife of Lord Vishnu, she visits devotees and bestows gifts and blessings upon each of them.

To welcome the Goddess, we make preparation by cleaning, decoration with finery and lights, and prepare sweet treats and delicacies as offerings. Devotees believe the happier Lakshmi is with the visit, the more she blesses the family with health and wealth.

On this day, the mothers, who work hard all year, are recognized by the family. Mothers are seen to embody a part of Lakshmi, the good fortune and prosperity of the household.

Goddess Lakshmi's incarnation evolved from the flower of Lotus and it is very precious to Maa Lakshmi. So, to please the Goddess, devotees offer 8 lotus flowers to Goddess Lakshmi. Devotees can offer different coloured roses which include green, red, yellow and white. If you do not find multi-coloured lotus, you can offer red-coloured one. Also, if devotees could not arrange lotus, they can offer jaggery offer to Goddess Lakshmi during Diwali Maha Puja.
Wrap the coconut in a red cloth and place it in front of the idol of Goddess Lakshmi during the auspicious Puja timings. Chant Lakhsmi Beej Mantra and say,
"Hey Lakshmi Mata aap ashtkama par virajman hain, aap humare ghar me niwas bnaye rakhein. Apni kripa se humein falibhoot rakhein. Apki kripa humare parivar par sada bani rahe. After chanting the prayer, keep the wrapped nariyal in your locker. The purpose of Ashta Lakshmi Mantra and Lakshmi Beej Mantra is to eradicate the lack of wealth in life. 18/09/2024

Pitru Paksha (Shradh) is a 16-day period of paying homage to your ancestors who have departed from this materialistic world, as per Hindu calendar. The period is marked by offering prayers, food, and daan to the needy and the priests in the temple. All the rituals and prayers are performed in respect and remembrance of the ancestors who left for the heavenly abode and to wish them well wherever they are.

SIGNIFICANCE OF PITRU PAKSH

When the legendary donor Karna died in the epic Mahabharata war, his soul transcended to heaven, where he was offered gold and jewels as food. However, Karna needed real food to eat and asked Indra, the lord of heaven, the reason for serving gold as food. Indra told Karna that he had donated gold all his life, but had never donated food to his ancestors in Shraddh. Karna said that since he was unaware of his ancestors, he never donated anything in their memory.

To make amends, Karna was permitted to return to earth for a 16–day period, so that he could perform Shraddh and donate food and water in their memory. This period is now known as Pitru Paksha. In some legends, Yama replaces Indra.

Annadaana or giving food to the hungry is a central part of the rituals during these 16 days. On all these days, offerings are made to the departed, including those whose names or manner of death are not known. On these days tarpan, shraddh and pinda daan are performed daily according to the procedures, under the guidance of a priest. Although these rites are to be carried out daily in this fortnight, it is considered that to perform them on the last day i.e. on Mahalaya Amavasya or Sarva Pitru Amavasya is extremely important and sacred. The performance of Shraddh by a son (a nephew/brother can also perform shraddh) during Pitru Paksha is regarded as a compulsory by Hindus, to ensure that the soul of the ancestor goes to heaven. The scripture Markandeya Purana says that if the ancestors are content with the shraddhs, they will bestow health, wealth, knowledge and longevity, and ultimately heaven and salvation (moksha) upon the performer.

The performance of Sarvapitri amavasya rites can also compensate a forgotten or neglected annual shraddh ceremony, which should ideally coincide with the death anniversary of the deceased.

The shraddh is performed on the specific lunar day during the Pitru Paksha, when the ancestor—usually a parent or paternal grandparent—died. There are exceptions to the lunar day rule; special days are allotted for people who died in a particular manner or had a certain status in life.

Sarvapitri amavasya ("all fathers' new moon day") is intended for all ancestors, irrespective of the lunar day they died. It is the most important day of the Pitru Paksha. Those who have forgotten to perform shraddh can do so on this day. A shraddh ritual performed on this day is considered as fruitful as one conducted in the holy city of Gaya, which is seen as a special place to perform the rite (according to the Garuda Purana), and hosts a fair during the Pitru Paksha period.

HOW TO OBSERVE PITRU PAKSHA

Remember your ancestors with rituals

Consult a Hindu priest or a family elder to learn the special rituals. Foods offered consist of rice, black sesame seeds and barley flour balls (Pindaas) along with water.

Help those less fortunate

It's believed that during Pitru Paksha, feeding and caring for anyone in need generates good karma that helps bring peace to the departed. What a great way to do your part!

Teach your children well

While you explain the significance of Pitru Paksha to your children, tell them that a good Hindu is respectful and loving to their parents, grandparents and elders. Remind your children that there are blessings in obedience.

5 WAYS TO GET GOOD KARMIC ACTION DURING PITRU PAKSHA

This is an inauspicious period

This 16-day period is considered an unfavorable time to start a new venture, get married, buy a house or a car.

Offer as a way to receive

Those who don't offer food and water to their ancestors during Pitru Paksha will receive none in their afterlife.

It washes away sins

Pitru Paksha is also the time a Hindu can wash off the sins inherited from his ancestors by performing the rituals and making offerings.

Feeding crows — a good omen

A crow eating the offerings is considered a good sign because crows are believed to be representatives of the God of Death,

WHY PITRU PAKSHA IS IMPORTANT

Hindus believe it grants peace to their ancestors

According to the holy writings of the Gita and the Vedas, offerings made to the departed during Pitru Paksha bring peace to their souls and helps them reach their divine destination.

It reaffirms the Hindu faith in an afterlife

Death is not the end — it merely punctuates the cycle of birth and rebirths and Pitru Paksha marks the end of one's physical body. For the soul, what follows is a journey determined by each person's individual karma, which was earned during their lifetime.

It connects past and present generations

The Hindus believe that there are strong karmic ties between previous, current and future unborn generations. We are indebted to our ancestors. When we honor them by praying for their souls, we earn their blessings.

Shubh Ganesh Chaturthi! May the blessings of Lord Ganesh be with us always!

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the main festivals of Hindus, which is dedicated to Bhagavan Ganapati. This festival is celebrated across the world with great enthusiasm and zeal. This day is considered one of the most auspicious days to worship Bhagavan Ganapati. Alongside Ganesha Chaturthi comes Ganesha Utsava, which starts from Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha and ends on Ananta Chaturdashi. Bhagavan Ganapati is the god of wisdom, wealth, and fortune. Bhagavan Ganapati is known as Vighneshwara: controller of all obstacles. During this time, bhaktas especially pray for their success and the removal of all obstacles in all tasks for the coming year.

It’s inauspicious to look at the moon during the duration of Ananta Chaturdashi.

Significance of Ananta Chaturdashi

Ananta Chaturdashi marks the end of Ganesha Utsava. On this day, the visarjanam of various biodegradable puja items usually occurs. These items include flowers, leaves, and clay murtis of Ganesha Deva (that are biodegradable).
Something to note here is, please do not do visarjanam of your regular Ganesha murtis. If you have made one using clay or haldi, you can do visarjanam of those specific murtis.

Ananta Chaturdashi is also dedicated to Bhagavan Vishnu, as Ananta Deva and many Bhaktas will do Prabhu's puja that day.
Another katha regarding Ananta Chaturdashi justifies not looking at the moon that day.

On the night of Ananta Chaturdashi, Bhagavan Ganapati was preparing to return to Kailasha after celebrating Ganesha Utsava. However, Bhagavan Ganapati is implied to have overeaten prashadam to the extent that his vahana (vehicle), Mooshaka, cannot take his weight! Additionally, Prabhu is carrying a big thaali of prashadam given to him, intending to take it back to Kailasha. Hence, as Bhagavan Ganapati sits upon Mooshaka and slowly begins to move, Mooshaka topples over due to the weight of Bhagavan Ganapati, causing Prabhu to topple over with his stomach bursting with prashadam.
It is essential to note that the point of the Katha is not to focus on the negative impacts of overeating or being overweight but to realize that the amount of weight Bhagavan Ganapati had was the weight of his devotees' devotion.

When we offer prashadam, it is not the number or weight of prashadam we offer that matters but the emotion and devotion that lies within our hearts.

After Bhagavan Ganapati's fall, he gets up, puts his stomach back together, and picks up the dropped thaali of prashadam. Vasuki, who viewed the situation, offers himself to hold Prabhu's stomach together. That is why a snake is seen wrapped around the stomach of Bhagavan Ganapati. However, the other individual who saw this situation, Chandra Deva, immediately started mocking and laughing at Bhagavan Ganapti. Therefore, Bhagavan Ganapati gave the shraap to Chandra Deva that because he was so proud of his appearance, anyone who looks at him on Ananta Chaturdashi will experience the same negativity as looking at a lunar eclipse and will attain Mithya Dosha, leading to false accusations about an individual.

An example of an individual who mistakingly looked at the moon on Ananta Chaturdashi was Bhagavan Shri Krishna. After Prabhu saw the moon on Chaturthi, he was accused of stealing the precious gem Syamantaka. (That is a Katha for another time.)
From such a Katha, we learn the importance of temperance, which Bhagavan Ganapati needed to adhere to. Additionally, we are reminded not to take pride in our appearance, attributes, or possessions, as they can be taken away in the blink of an eye.

We can worship Bhagavan Ganapati by doing simple puja and havan in our own homes during this period of Ganesha Chaturthi.

One of the simplest mantras you can use for Japan is:

ॐ गं गणपतये नमः॥
Om Gan Ganapataye Namaha॥
or
ॐ एकदन्ताय विद्धमहे, वक्रतुण्डाय धीमहि,
तन्नो दन्ति प्रचोदयात्॥
Aum Ekadantaya Viddhamahe, Vakratundaya Dhimahi,
Tanno Danti Prachodayat॥
