You don't get self-control by making excuses and not taking responsibility for your choices.
You get self-control by submitting to authority.
Other-control teaches self-control by modeling what control is - what it looks like. Then, you can enact it for yourself. We will not surrender to what is right for ourselves - even to ourselves - without first learning surrender.
