Sorsogon to reach 100% use of E-Jeepneys’
by God Frey Las Pinas

To contribute in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and air pollution, 65% of the population in Sorsogon now uses the modern jeepney as a form of transportation.
The station of the modern jeepney can be found in Sorsogon Rompeolas. This transportation is designed to reduce air pollution and GHG emissions by 87%, minimizing the health risks of the people within the community.

Drivers of the modern jeepney said that they strictly implement the health and safety protocols when using the vehicle to prioritize the safety of the drivers and the passengers.

Sonny Esparas, a driver of the modern jeepney said,” before we use the jeepney we sanitized it first, and make sure that our passengers are always wearing their facemask and face shields before entering the jeepney.”

Residents of Sorsogon city describes the modern jeepney as one of the safest rides during this pandemic because of the convenience it provides and the proper health security for its residents.

“The jeepney is way comfortable and neat at all ties making it safer for us to ride,” Melody, a passenger, said.

Nevertheless, despite the advantages and positive impacts it provides, we should still be responsible and accountable enough by ensuring safety because we are not yet done battling this pandemic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) continuously reminds to follow the health and safety protocols implemented by the government.

Bicol Region to achieve herd immunity by 2022
by Mayet Marcayda

The Department of Health (DOH) Region V aims to vaccinate at least 3.68 million Bicolanos to attain herd immunity by 2022.

Based on the given data by DOH-V, as of November 4, 2021, Camarines Sur records 295,415 fully vaccinated residents, 230,104 in Albay, 146,039 in Sorsogon, 113,230 in Masbate, 80,199 in Cam Norte, and 56,668 in the province of Catanduanes. The total sums up to 931,665 or 21% of the target population considering the early age restrictions.

In a report from Manila Bulletin, DOH COVID-19 Program Coordinator, Dr. Rita Mae Ang-Bon said that they are targeting 3.68 million or 60 to 70 percent eligible Bicolanos to get vaccinated out of the 6 million population to achieve herd immunity in the region while the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines continues to roll-out.

The vaccination among minors in the region for residents aged 12-17 already started, resulting to the increase of the number of vaccinated Bicolanos.

Moreover, the World Health Organization (WHO) continuously reminds that even though the vaccines can protect us from the threats of the virus, the public must still strictly follow the safety protocols mandated by the government.

Magarao began its vaccination for young individuals’ ages 12-17 years old on Friday, November 19 at Magarao National High School (MNHS) as part of the Department of Health (DOH) pediatric vaccination campaign in the country.

Dr. Reynaldo Lopez, school principal of MNHS said that the vaccination program in the school is the pilot implementation of pediatric vaccination of the town in coordination with Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Magarao, Schools Division of Camarines Sur, and provincial government of Camarines Sur.

Lopez added that the students who came in to receive their first jab of vaccine do not achieve the 50% of school’s student population.
MNHS has 1,532 enrolled students in the school year of 2021-2022 and only 582 students received their vaccine.

Approximately 80 students from that came from Ponong Integrated School, a school that partnered with MNHS on piloting the vaccination program.

The pediatric vaccination program would be the first and last that will happen in the school. However, Lopez is positive that that DepEd Camarines Sur will take initiative again to hold vaccination program in schools to cater the rest of the student population who refused to be vaccinated.

The said vaccination in Camarines Sur piloted at Pili National High School and E. Rodriguez National High School on Nov. 17. As of Nov. 19, only the municipalities of Magarao, Calabanga, Pili and Ocampo have coordinated with the provincial government and DepEd Camarines Sur to kick start their inoculation for 12-17 years old.

Meanwhile, during the simultaneous national vaccination last Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, Magarao town vaccinates a total of 3,369. Vaccination for COVID-19 shots is still ongoing in the town from Dec. 13 to 17 2021.

LOOK: BSP launches new design of P1,000 bill
by Paolo Yap

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Saturday, December 11, launched a new design for P1,000 bill.

The new design of BSP was approved by National Historical Institute (NHI). The Monetary Board and the Office of the President approved its issuance.

"The new design of the P1,000 banknote, which will be for the limited polymer bills to be released next year, features the Philippine eagle in front, replacing heroes Vicente Lim, Josefa Llanes Escoda, and Jose Abad Santos,” BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno said.

Moreover, the said new design of P1,000 bill was made of polymer instead of common materials such as abaca or cotton. Polymer is more expensive to print but according to BSP, this material takes longer to break.
