Organization is something I have always struggled with. Just a little history about me that is relevant when discussing executive function. While I don’t let it define who I am, I was diagnosed with “ADD” when I was 8 years old. Now a days it is lumped into the ADHD diagnosis. However, I don.....

Earlier this year I decided to complete a “2 birds” project all on my own. I wanted the shelves to both display things we didn’t use much on the higher shelf and store things we use on a regular basis on the lower one. I knew it would be a challenge, but my husband was working, and I wanted to complete it all on my own. I used power tools, a measuring tape, 2x6 lumber, 6 brackets, and some God given determination.
I put up two huge coffee bar shelves. The idea of the shelves was intimidating but after I figured out where the studs were in the wall, I just went for it. I am still pleased with my results. They have served us very well in the past few months.
Our house is a 113-year-old farmhouse and not a single floor or door is level. The foundation has done its fair share of settling and things have sagged in the process. I am not saying this to complain, on the contrary, I love our quirky little farmhouse and all its “character”. I am simply stating this as a fact, that must be taken into consideration when doing projects like hanging shelves.
After completing the project, I loaded them down and stepped back to take a picture, upon looking at it I realized they didn’t appear level. Slightly discouraged I threw a level on them again to be sure and they passed this test, for the fourth time. While I want the shelves to look nice on the outside it is more important to me that they function properly.
I view the shelves much like my own character, I would rather them be level than I would them just appear level. I needed them to be sturdy, I planned to use them for storing glasses and other breakables. I had to make sure they were firmly anchored in the studs of the wall. This took carefully examining the wall and finding the right place to secure them.
Like the shelves we need to be anchored in the firm foundation of scripture and the security of its truth. In scripture we have the answers for all the trials life may bring us. We have the level in the pages if God’s word. We must always hold up our thoughts and actions to that standard.

I had to take a step back from writing this month because we have had a lot of real life busyness going on. Which is the perfect segue to my next post topic. “Priorities”

Stay tuned for a long post with a lot of pictures of this past months IRL duties .. â˜ș

The life of the busy Christian women is like a rose. Duty upon duty spun carefully by the Lord in a beautiful display of submission to his order, being obedient to the hard work he has for her, and stewarding her gifts in a way that glorifies Him.
