Malala Yousafzai writes in defence of the film ‘Joyland’ after it was banned from its theatrical release by the Punjab government.

The activist shared, “when a film like Sadiq’s raises up working class or trans characters, and women struggling to assert themselves against rigid and very real social norms, we turn away. In doing so, we reject the spectacular talent of Pakistani artists that a film like Joyland represents.”

“What message are we sending to the next generation who, like Sadiq, want to make films in Karachi or Swat Valley, when we ban art by our own people?” shared the activist.

Following the disqualification of PTI Chairman Imran Khan by the ECP in the Toshakhana reference--- protests erupted nationwide; with protestors burning tyres and blocking motorways.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former premier Imran Khan on Friday as it announced its verdict in the Toshakhana (gift depository) reference.

A four-member bench declared Imran Khan’s National Assembly seat vacant as it unanimously decided that he had provided incorrect information in the case and disqualified him “for the time being”.

The verdict de-seated Imran as per Article-63 (A) and ordered the initiation of criminal proceedings against him for submitting a false statement. However, the ECP shied away from declaring the deposed premier disqualified for life.

Meanwhile, the PTI leadership has announced that it will challenge the decision in court.

Would you want to watch a Pakistani serial killer's story?💡

Ryan Murphy’s serial killer biopic Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has broken Netflix records in its first week on the streamer. The Evan Peters-led series landed Netflix’s most-watched Week 1 on record for a new series worldwide following its release on September 21.

In its first five days on the platform, it drew in 196.2 million hours(opens in new tab) of viewership, taking the number one spot on Netflix’s Top 10 in several countries including Pakistan. The figure is the highest first week of viewership for an all-new series on the streamer to date.

American actor and humanitarian Angelina Jolie is currently in Pakistan to meet victims of the recent floods. As part of her tour, she visited the National Flood Response Coordination Centre on Wednesday.

“I’ve never seen anything like this. I have, as you mentioned, been to Pakistan many times, I came first because of the generosity the Pakistani people have shown the people of Afghanistan over the years and as a host country. It’s often the countries that don’t have as much that give so much more than many other countries and now, at this time, we see it’s the countries that cause less damage to the environment that is now bearing the brunt of the disaster and the pain and the death,” she said at the meeting.

Two people died on Monday as rain coupled with strong and cool winds lashed parts of Karachi.

A spokesperson for the Edhi Foundation said Hammad Rafiq, 18, was electrocuted near Baldia Town’s Pakora Chowk and the body was shifted to the nearby Murshid Hospital.

In another incident, a 27-year-old man was electrocuted in Saudabad. Saudabad Station House Officer Khalid Memon identified the victim as Muneer Shafi, adding that his body has been moved to the Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre.

Karachi's weather made a major shift Monday afternoon as the sun took a back seat with dark clouds blanketing the city amid rain after a couple of days of sweltering heat.

A driver drove a burning tanker on the provincial capital's Qambrani road to save lives. In what seemed like a scene from a movie, Muhammad Faisal drove off his vehicle when it caught fire at a petrol pump located on the aforesaid road. "I thought now the oil tanker will explode and I will die," Faisal said as the video of him driving through fire went viral on media. Recalling the horrifying moments, he said: "When I saw the fire I rushed to drive away despite the roaring flames." As the people saw thick black smoke rising from the tanker and flames they started to shout, pleading to the driver to stop it. "My primary concern was to save human lives," the determined tanker driver said who chose to put his life at great risk driving the burning vehicle for around two kilometres. Dua Zehra, the 14-year-old girl who had gone missing from Karachi last month but later revealed that she had run away to marry the man of her choice, has recently said in a video message that the couple's life is in danger. In the video message, Dua maintained that she had willingly left Karachi to marry Zaheer Ahmed, 21, and was living a "happy and peaceful life in Lahore along with her husband and in-laws." She said that despite the Constitution and the law of the country allowing her to "marry anyone I want" and "live wherever I want", the Punjab and Sindh police were "harassing her" and were "carrying out an illegal search to recover her." The teenager refuted claims being made on social media that her in-laws were part of some trafficking gang and said that they were "respectable people" and "better than my parents." She also maintained that she does not wish to go to Karachi as she was happy in her husband's Lahore home. "I had recorded a statement in the court in favour of my husband and had left a letter for my parents before leaving, explaining the reasons behind my decision to marry him," she said, adding that despite her informing them, her parents went ahead and filed a missing person case to recover her. "Our lives are in danger. If anything happens to us, the Sindh police, Punjab police, and my parents will be responsible." Imran Khan’s young fan gets emotional after meeting his idol. The PTI shared a video of a young fan of the party chairman Imran Khan Thursday who met him at his Banigala residence following his passionate appeal to his idol. In the video, that has gone viral on social media, the Lakki Marwat boy could be seen crying while hugging the former prime minister. He had requested on camera to meet the party chairman during the Abbottabad jalsa. The boy in the video, named Abu Bakar, was unable to meet the PTI chairman during the Sunday rally. However, his dream came true when he met Imran Khan and also got an autograph from him on his kameez (shirt). Abu Bakr, who is a student in grade nine, couldn't hold his tears back when he met Khan. He also gave him a ring as a gift. The video also showed Khan continuously consoling the kid, saying: "You will do big things when you grow up, no need to cry."
