Russian pipeline company Transneft hit by data leak dedicated to Hillary Clinton

As the Russian invasion of Ukraine enters its third week, unknown actors continue to attack Russian state-backed firms with a series of hacks and data breaches, the most recent seemingly referencing Hillary Clinton's pro-hacktivism comments.

Transneft, the Russian state-controlled oil pipeline conglomerate, is the target. Distributed Denial of Secrets, a leak hosting website, published a link to 79GB of emails from the Omega Company, Transneft's research and development branch, on Thursday.

Transneft, headquartered in Moscow, is the world's largest pipeline corporation. As a state-owned Russian firm, it is currently barred from obtaining investments from the US market as a result of Russia's sanctions.

Apple’s charts set the M1 Ultra up for an RTX 3090 fight it could never win

When Apple unveiled the M1 Ultra, the company's most powerful in-house processor to date and the crown jewel of its brand new Mac Studio, it did so with charts claiming that the Ultra was capable of outperforming Intel's top processor or Nvidia's RTX 3090 GPU on its own. In typical Apple fashion, the charts were labeled on the Y-axis with "relative performance," and Apple doesn't tell us what precise tests it does to arrive at whatever numbers it then uses to determine "relative performance."

But now that we have a Mac Studio, we can say that, contrary to Apple's claims, the M1 Ultra isn't actually faster than an RTX 3090 in most tests.

Intel’s AMD bug find proves that Spectre is still looming over us

According to Tom's Hardware, Intel's security team identified a hole in AMD's years-old remedy against Spectre-based vulnerabilities while doing its own study. In response, AMD has issued an update to its security bulletin, recommending an alternate mitigation method and providing additional guidance to software developers.

Ford’s e-scooter company is pulling out of any city that doesn’t limit competition

Spin, a Ford-owned e-scooter startup, announced a massive restructure on Friday, stating that it will withdraw from "almost all open permit markets." Spin is particularly exiting "a few" US markets, Germany, and Portugal, and it is "projecting" to close in Spain as soon as February.
