What the Horse Carries.
It began with fist fulls of mane on the back of a bouncy little pinto pony,
and turned into long summer days spent ba****ck and fearless, racing the clouds as they swept the endless blue sky.
Forging friendships that would last a lifetime,
and tasting a freedom that can only be found from the back of a horse and the ignorance of adolescence
Accidentally building good horses in small moments and lots of miles.
Carefree.
The horse carries me joyfully
through the buzz of cicadas who chorus with the songbirds in an overgrown field.
Learning from mistakes and growing up slowly.
Idyllic summer days fade,
Character is built one frozen bucket at a time.
Growing up fast.
Dedication, grit, tenacity, goals.
Learning that showing up means something and that real-life doesn’t give days off.
I find out the hard way that just because something should be a certain way doesn’t always mean it’s how it will turn out and that achieving goals is very rarely a linear journey.
Wild and unruly the horse carries my burden.
Matching me stride for stride.
Thundering down the beach beneath a heavy November sky, tear-streaked face, salt kissed skin.
Together we try to outrun the weight of the world.
A winter trail,
sun streaks through snow-laden branches.
Streams of steam rise white against cold clear air.
Snow muffled hoofbeats fall in rhythm with my soul.
Peace.
An intricate balance
Loosening the reins.
Welcoming what is to come.
And the horse carries me through, as always. ❤️
