Recently we've had many new followers and we'd like to introduce ourselves to everyone who is a new fan of Casa Romantica! If that's you, hi 👋

Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens is located on 2.5 acres in the Ole Hanson home, a registered historic landmark and legacy of the founder of San Clemente. The building celebrated 95 years in 2022, while the cultural center celebrated its 20th anniversary.

Our story is simple: The founder of San Clemente, Ole Hanson, built this Spanish Colonial Revival home as his representation of the California dream in 1927 and patterned the development of the rest of the city after this property. The property passed through many hands throughout the twentieth century. In the late 1980s, a group of forward-thinking individuals who saw what Casa Romantica could become took responsibility for its future.

It was registered as a historic landmark, restored to its original beauty through a major capital campaign, and transformed into a cultural arts center as well as an architectural and botanical destination.

Nearly twenty years later, our vibrant institution programs over 100 multicultural events every year, hosts a variety of educational programs, maintains 2.5 acres of diversified water-wise coastal flora from all over the world, and welcomes over 40,000 visitors annually.

In April of 2023, Casa Romantica suffered a devastating landslide, however we have persevered! The City of San Clemente is working of stabilizing the cliff and we are working on getting other areas open. In the meantime, when you visit Casa Romantica you can stroll through the Courtyard, West Terrace, Art Gallery, Discovery Gallery, Gift Shop, and Butterfly Garden.
