Our first year of podcasting is winding down and we are thankful for all of the support and downloads that we have received!

New episodes have dropped over the last few weeks and I invite you to listen to Dr. Corinne Goldman and Dr. Dan Hall on .

Our newest episode, and just in time for the holidays, focuses on JOY, with Dr. Laura Smallwood. , and specifically Sympathetic Joy, is the third of the four heart virtues and involves rejoicing in the and good fortune of someone else. We discuss how true happiness is a skill that we can cultivate in ourselves, but why pursuit of happiness that is dependent on external circumstances is counterproductive. When we are able to cultivate true happiness, it becomes a superpower, and it is then much easier to engage in sympathetic joy. We can learn to take the time to fully enjoy what we find pleasurable and partner that enjoyment with . We can take the time to notice the little things with curiosity and wonder. We can practice contentment, share our joy with others, and share in the joy of others. Let's see if we can all spread more joy throughout this holiday season!

Join Dr. Laura Smallwood as we discuss . Compassion starts with , but also adds , or as Dr. Laura states "I think of compassion as what happens when kindness meets up with a difficult or painful situation."

We discuss how compassion starts with the recognition of , and is as simple as a heartfelt desire for the person experiencing suffering to be free from that suffering. Compassion doesn't necessarily demand action, and sometimes our need to take action can make a situation worse.

We also discuss how compassion fatigue is not actually possible, because compassion isn't a limited commodity, and we do not suffer from being too compassionate. In fact, studies have shown the opposite. This misunderstanding often arises when we carry transactional-based expectations based on how 'nice' we think we've been to others.

And finally, we discuss how compassion directed at those who have done wrong can be healing for all involved, because we recognize that all harm arises from suffering.

This was a truly special episode for us, as we hope it will be for you.

Embracing true kindness instead of "niceness" helps us become better people, better professionals, and can improve our performance at work by reducing the shackles and increased bandwidth taken up by our expectations and the desire to control outcomes.
