F.F. CRUZ LAUNCHES NEGROS-PANAY MAIDEN VOYAGE

F.F. Cruz Shipping Corporation congratulated and thanked the public for a succesful maiden voyage of their new route connecting EB Magalona, Negros Occidental and Bay-ang, Ajuy, Iloilo today, April 27.

According to the shipping line, the new route offers the public a shorter travel time of just one hour and 20 minutes.

Beginning today, F.F. Cruz Shipping Corporation will ferry passengers every Wednesday and Thursday from EB Magalona to Ajuy every 6:00 AM and 12:00 NOON and from Ajuy to EB Magalona from 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

The shipping line reminds the public that as a general rule, only fully vaccinated are allowed to travel between Negros Island and Panay Island.

Meanwhile, unvaccinated kids below 12 years old may be allowed to travel or board the vessel provided that they present to the BHERT their birth certificate, medical certificate certifying of no symptoms of Covid during travel.

Local leaders and government agencies earlier stressed that aside from shorter travel time, the new route is expected to boost the tourism and economy of the region and will bring more jobs and employment to locals of both provinces.

SARA LOGS LOCAL CASE OF OMICRON VARIANT

The town of Sara recorded the first local case of COVID-19 Omicron variant in Fifth District.

However, the Iloilo Provincial Health Office emphasized that the case was already tagged as recovered.

Like Sara, the town of Tigbauan in Southern Iloilo also logged a local case of COVID-19 Omicron variant.

Meanwhile, the towns of Pavia, Maasin, Cabatuan and Pototan registered one case each of same variant but involving Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs).

On the other hand, Cabatuan recorded cases of such variant involving two locally stranded individuals (LSIs). ( )

ILECO III “LOVE ON WHEELS” GIVES AID IN LAWIS

The “Love on Wheels” of Iloilo IIII Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ILECO III) went to Sitio Punta, Lawis, Balasan today, January 25.

The project is a roving community pantry of ILECO III that aims to provide assistance to their member-consumer-owners (MCOs) during this time of pandemic.

For today’s visit, 70 MCOs received grocery items and packs of rice.

ILECO III also conducted Information Education Campaign (IEC) program to empower and educate the MCOs of their operation, programs and activities. ( )

Miss Universe Philippines 2020 and Ilongga beauty queen Rabiya Mateo turned emotional during the Miss Iloilo 2022 Pageant Night as she reminisced her pageant journey.

“I will be forever grateful to Miss Iloilo. You guys changed my life”, Mateo told the crowd.

Mateo who hails from Balasan was crowned as Miss Iloilo and Miss Universe Philippines last 2020.

“From being a lecturer to a beauty queen. Now, I am an actress, an action star”, she added.

Mateo served as a review lecturer prior to her stint in Miss Universe Philippines.

After making the Ilonggos proud on the international pageant scene, she continues her reign with GMA Network. ( )

Erica Doronila who hails from Sara, Iloilo was adjudged as 2nd Runner Up in the recently concluded Miss Iloilo 2022.

Doronila, a student leader, is taking up Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship at NIPSC Ajuy Campus.

She is the only representative of the Fifth District in the pageant. ( )

BAROTAC VIEJO, SAN RAFAEL TO EXPERIENCE 12-HOUR POWER INTERRUPTION

The towns of Barotac Viejo and San Rafael will experience a 12-hour power interruption on Sunday, January 23.

According to Iloilo III Electric Cooperative (ILECO III), the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will conduct a scheduled preventive maintenance in their Di**le-Natividad 69kV Line.

The power interrupion will start from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM.

Aside from Barotac Viejo and San Rafael, the towns of Anilao and Banate will also experience the same power interruption.

NGCP links power generators and distribution utilities to deliver electricity to various areas served by electric cooperatives like ILECO III. ( )

QUINTO TEACHERS AND PUPILS BATTLE IN SPG FAITH QUEST

A total of six entries from teachers and pupils in Northern Iloilo are competing for SPG Faith Quest of the Department of Education - Iloilo Schools Division Office.

The entry of Barotac Viejo is the sole representative of Fifth District in the Interpretative Dance - Teachers Category while for the entry of Sara is the lone representative in the Pupils Category.

For Composo, the district is represented by entries of Balasan and Barotac Viejo.

Meanwhile, for Bible Story Telling, Quinto Distrito is represented by Sara and San Dionisio.

COVID CASES IN NORTE ALMOST DOUBLED IN A WEEK

The number of COVID-19 cases in Northern Iloilo almost doubled in just a week.

As of January 16, the Iloilo Provincial Health Office monitors 174 active cases in Fifth District which is almost 100% higher than the 87 cases recorded last January 8.

Meanwhile, number of deaths remained at 131 while recoveries rose to 5,319.

Sara recorded the most number of active cases with 59, followed by by Ajuy with 34 and Barotac Viejo with 14. ( )

BALASAN TAKES LEAD IN QUINTO'S COVID VACCINATION

The Municipal Government of Balasan is taking the lead in COVID-19 Vaccination efforts in Fifth District.

Based on the latest report presented by the Iloilo Provincial Health Office, Balasan is few percentage away from achieving the target set for the municipality.

As of January 16, Balasan was able to vaccinate 94% of its target, followed by Lemery with 90%, Batad and Concepcion with 89%, Barotac Viejo with 87% and San Rafael with 81%.

Meanwhile, San Dionisio was able to vaccinate 79% of its target, Sara (75%), Ajuy (74), Estancia (68%) and Carles (67%) . ( )

QUINTO LOGS 11 NEW COVID CASES

The Fifth District of Iloilo logged eleven (11) new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, January 15.

Based on the latest bulletin issued by the Iloilo Provincial Health Office, the town of Barotac Viejo accounted 5 new local cases, while Batad registered 2 new local cases.

Meanwhile, the towns of Balasan, Carles, Lemery and Sara recorded 1 new local case each.

The entire province recorded additional 92 new cases.

The total confirmed cases of the province climbed to 35,843 with 1,054 active cases, 33,694 recoveries and 1,095 deaths. ( )

SARA OPENS MUNICIPAL DENTAL CLINIC

The Municipal Government of Sara formally opened its Municipal Dental Clinic to make dental services accessible to all Saranhons especially to the poor.

The clinic is open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 AM until 12 NN.

Manned by Municipal Dentist Dr. Wye Mae Suerte, the clinic offers free dental check up and tooth extraction for all.

Government employees and children from ages 5-12 may avail free dental restoration(pasta).

Meanwhile, cleaning with flouride treatment will also be offered free to children from ages 3-12.

Due to the ongoing threats brought by COVID-19, the local government limits the services of the clinic to cater only those that are fully vaccinated.

Except for children from ages 3 to 12, all clients are required to bring vaccination card during transaction. ( )

9 TOWNS IN QUINTO LOG NEW COVID CASES

Except for Lemery and San Rafael, all towns in Northern Iloilo registered new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, January 14.

Based on the latest bulletin issued by the Iloilo Provincial Health Office, the town of Barotac Viejo accounted 4 new local cases while Ajuy and San Dionisio both logged 3 new local cases.

Meanwhile, the towns of Estancia, Balasan, Carles, Concepcion, Sara, and Batad recorded 1 new local case each.

For Friday, the province recorded 122 new cases and 2 new recoveries.

The total confirmed cases of the province climbed to 35,751 with 963 active cases, 33,693 recoveries and 1,095 deaths. ( )

CONCEPCION IS ILOILO’S TOP PERFORMING LGU IN UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE IMPLEMENTATION

The Municipality of Concepcion was named by the Iloilo Provincial Government as the top performing local government unit (LGU) in the implementation of the Universal Health Care (UHC).

During the Provincial Health Summit held today, the Provincial Health Office recognized Concepcion as the most efficient and effective in the implementation of UHC.

With its distinction, Concepcion received cash award amounting to P250,000.

Miag-ao placed second with P200,000 and Pavia placed third with P150,000.

Tied in the fourth spot are San Joaquin, Tigbauan, and Mina with P100,000 each.

Other towns in Northern Iloilo also went home with a prize.

Lemery, Batad and Carles together with Passi City and Cabatuan ranked fifth, each receiving P75,000 cash prize.

Meanwhile, Ajuy together with Sta. Barbara, Oton, Guimbal, Di**le, and Badiangan placed sixth, receiving P50,000 each.

They were judged based on the following criteria: organization of Epidemiology and Surveillance System, functionality of Electronic Medical Record, institutionalization of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for Health (DRRM-H) System, health promotion programs and campaigns, formulation and approval of the Local Investment Plan for Health (LIPH) and Annual Operational Plan (AOP), and governance and leadership activities. BATAD, SAN DIONISIO TAKE LEAD IN QUINTO'S PEDIATRIC VACCINATION

The Municipalities of Batad and San Dionisio are taking the lead in the pediatric vaccination efforts in the Fifth District.

Based on the latest vaccination update issued by the Iloilo Provincial Health Office, the two municipalities were able to vaccinate more than a hundred percent of their projected pediatric population.

In Batad, 2,597 young people aged 12 to 17 were vaccinated which is equivalent to 104% of the 2,504 projected pediatric population of the town.

Meanwhile, in San Dionisio, 4,687 young people were able to receive at least a dose of COVID-19 vaccine which is equivalent to 103% of the town's 4,559 projected population.

For the whole Fifth District, 46,981 or 88% of 53,087 projected population were able to receive their first dose. ( )

LEMERY, PORTIONS OF SARA TO EXPERIENCE POWER INTERRUPTION ON SATURDAY

A nine-hour power interruption will be experienced in all barangays of Lemery and several barangays of Sara tomorrow, January 15.

In Sara, the affected areas are Arante, Apelo and Villahermosa.

Iloilo III Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ILECO III) stressed that the temporary outage will start from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

According to ILECO III, the scheduled power interruption will give way to clearing of backbone and lateral lines as well as for tapping of lines to the Three-Phase Line in South East Zone, Poblacion, Lemery ( )

CONCEPCION FARMERS GET HYBRID RICE SEEDS FROM DA

Almost 400 farmers in Concepcion received hybrid rice seeds from the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The assistance aims to help increase the rice production of the municipality.

In his message, Concepcion Mayor Raul Banias reiterated his commitment to continuously support the local farmers through provision of concrete programs and allocation of additional fund to the sector.

The mayor also expressed his gratitude to the unending support of DA in the municipality. ( )
