We did it! We opened a bookshop in Mojácar, Spain. For now our social media presence is quite lame (we're only on FB, follow us Sunny with a Chance of Books), but you can see more of our bookshop adventures there! Yey!

NEW Episode! is a new bookshop with a great story. It's in Lisbon, where its founder moved a few years back and realised she was not the only one missing fresh exciting new books in English. So she started what has already become a literary home for readers and writers in Portugal's buzzing capital. I'd like to bring back this episode recorded back in 2021; has unanswered comments over the last weeks, making its friends worry about him and the bookshop. The situation in Gaza is absolutely heartbreaking and, while this podcast is a tiny voice looking to take no political stance, I couldn't help but think about the conversation we had with Samir two years ago, when his bookshop was destroyed. And how he, with the help of so many who came to support him, rebuilt that bookshop into an even larger, more beautiful one. I thought about how many children, parents, authors, readers found their refuge in this new bookshop and how it is now again facing so much uncertainty. I don't know whether the bookshop is still there or whether Samir is safe, but together with all those who listened to this episode and heard his passion and resilience, I'll be thinking of him. 🙏

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a bookseller? Opening a bookshop? Come join the Future Booksellers Club!
Since starting Got Books, I've been getting messages from listeners around the world who share that dream. The idea of one day opening my own bookshop is the reason I started the podcast and that idea is still alive somewhere in my head.. although it's not attached to any definite timeline. The Future Booksellers Club, I hope, will be a space for all of us who like to fantasize about one day calling themselves booksellers. Our first meetup is on Jan 13, come along! We'll just say hi, share a drink (it's all happening on Zoom, so bring your own!) and see where we're at in our bookshop dreaming journeys. In my quest for a climate bookshop, I stumbled upon and was instantly charmed by their name, their excellent blend of books on , nature writing and seasonal reads (and ). I was then even more charmed when I had the chance to sit down with Hailey and find out how she opened her shop at the brave age of 24! Many of us had thoughts of doing something more meaningful with our lives during the pandemic, but..did we? Well, Hailey did! She took her passion for and combined it with her desire to do something other than just worrying about climate change..and started The Nature of Reading.

After having lived in Ireland for 5 years and fallen deeply in love with it, I'm so glad to have finally made an episode with an Irish bookshop! And not just any bookshop, but the magical Westport based Tertulia Books Westport, a bookshop like no other. The mission of Tertulia is to contribute to a positive change in the way the world thinks. The vision of Tertulia is to live in a world where every story matters, to live in a world that understands that (our) stories are interconnected. It is this understanding that can help make our world a more equal society.
It was an absolute pleasure to talk to Brid & Neil and I really hope that one day they write their story (and Tertulia's) and turn it into what I'm sure will be a bestseller.

We have a new episode!! Just in time for Christmas, I managed (barely) to publish this conversation I had with Gesine Tosin about... , a where the books are picked by theme. It opened its doors this summer with a theme that feels especially appropriate at Christmas time..laziness. And it's second topic, , is also one that feels more important than ever this time of the year.
I loved this conversation and the idea of almost reinventing the bookshop concept. Hope you enjoy it too.

Hello hello, hope you're still with us despite the long break we've been on. It's been 3 months (more or less) since our last episode and we're thinking of going back to the studio (well, to our laptops and microphones, if we're being honest) and recording more conversations with booksellers. This time the plan is to focus on one country at a time and chat to some of the most beautiful, quirky, exciting or just plain weird bookshops out there. So we want to ask you: Which country has the best bookshops? We know, we know, this is all very subjective..but what isn't really?

We brought back some of our favourite , from Golden Hare Books and Cappelens Forslag, to talk about Christmas in their . What do they love about it, what books do people buy, and more importantly what books do they recommend this year. Hope you enjoy these two Christmassy conversations. They mark the end of Got Books? 2nd Season. It's been a blast!
