One Minute Bible Commentary I believe the Bible doesn’t have to be taught in hours of boring monologue. That is why I decided to teach the Bible in one minute segments.

It has been quite some time since I have post anything on social media. There are many reasons for that. One is that I wanted to take a break while I studied the book of exodus for season two of the podcast. Another is that I have been teaching middle school science and history and that has taken most of my time, effort, and sanity 😂. Yet another is that I have experienced a family tragedy when my mother died.

All this to say my year has not been great and many things have kept me from my goal of getting season two of one minute bible commentary back on a regular release schedule. God has blessed me and kept my head above water the past few months.

I am happy to inform you that God never leaves us or forsakes us and one minute bible commentary will release a whole week of new episodes starting tomorrow at noon.

As a history teacher, historian, and complete Bible nerd I love all history. I find it helpful sometimes to take a break from studying Biblical history and take a look at how the big picture of history tells God’s great story. Today I have started reading about the Colonization of North America. This helps me to put history into context and relax from writing scripts so that I can think about the Bible and how all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose. In sum, it is ok to take a break from reading the Bible and relax with something different for a while.

My two favorite things in the world are history and the Bible. I am blessed and happy to be able to work on a project like One Minute Bible Commentary. It is my great hope that anyone who listens to this podcast will know a little more about God and his great story playing out in real time. The Bible is unique because it is a book that we are all taking part in at this very moment. History and the Bible are intimately connected and the events of one take place in the other. The Bible invites us to take part in God’s great story and use our lives as a way to express God’s love to a hurting world.

I love the Bible project. If anyone is looking to understand the Bible better or do a deep dive into the Bible please check this out. It is completely free and they have tons of resources including a podcast explaining many different aspects of God, the Bible, and theology. This crowdfunded animation studio has blessed me in many ways.

One thing that I have always enjoyed is learning more about the Bible. I would often get frustrated that there was nobody who seemed to be trying to get to the bottom of the difficult questions I would ask. This team takes the Bible seriously and examines it from many different perspectives. They are trying to answer all the difficult questions that I had and some I didn’t even think to ask. If you are tired and frustrated that people are just scratching the surface of what the Bible is and how it can be better understood then give the Bible project website a visit. You will not regret it.

It has honestly changed my life having a group of people who care about Bible study as much as me to listen to and get tips from. If the kingdom of God is supposed to be a kingdom of priests we should all try and learn as much about God as we can. That is why I also take advantage of their totally free master level Bible classes.

May God bless your personal Bible study and may God bless with many more years of research and animation. podcast

I am reminded this New Year’s Eve morning of all the struggle and craziness this year has brought us. I know that this year has been extremely hard for a lot of people but Gods plan is like a photo mosaic. The difficulty we face today is but one picture in the great mosaic of God’s plan. Just because this photo is one of sorrows and struggle does not mean the next one will be. Each photo, or year of our lives, may be independently good or bad but when viewed as God’s great plan we see a beautiful picture that requires the darkness and light of each photo to present the big picture. What is the big picture? Your suffering is not meaningless and God will use your suffering and struggle for good. God’s kingdom is a photo mosaic that requires our experiences good and bad dark and light to bring about the beautiful bigger image. The good news for this year is that God uses everything that happens In our lives to build his everlasting kingdom. In God’s great mercy he allows us to be a part of his big picture despite our sin because of Christ’s finished work on the cross. Happy new year from One Minute Bible Commentary.

Today was a fun day full of deep study. I am reminded of how awesome and loving God is when I get to think deeply about him while writing scripts. The one thing that I have to remind myself of during all this great study time is the fact that a relationship with God does not come from study but from trusting God completely and loving others.

Episode 78 Trusting God is a Lifestyle
The Bible is all about trusting God, the Hebrew people put trusting God at the center of their lives and their stories. God is the hub around which everything revolves and trusting him is not just a suggestion it is a lifestyle. This story in Genesis chapter 19 shows us that trusting God and having a covenant relationship with him saves us not just trying to be a good person in a bad world. Lot’s wife did not offer her daughters up for r**e but Lot did and she is the one who dies, this may seem unfair at first, but when this story is viewed through the lens of trust we see that for all his faults Lot is trusting God and his wife is not. This can be understood when we read that Lot believed that God would do what the angels said he would do. This fosters obedience in Lot expressed by not looking back. Lot’s wife who is not named shows distrust and this distrust is expressed in the disobedience of looking back at the city.

Episode 77 Lot’s Escape
For all of his efforts Lot is still not a righteous man. He does try to help the angels and the text is clear that he is sincere, however, he is trying to help the angels by going his way instead of talking to God and seeking him. Lot goes to his son’s-in-law but they laugh off his warning and the angels lead Lot, his wife, and daughters to the gate of the city after blinding the would-be rapists with a bright light. The angels complete their mission of destroying s***m after they tell Lot to get out and head to the hills. Lot protests and the angles tell him to go to a small town outside of s***m. Lots wife looks back to the city after being explicitly told not to by the angels and becomes a pillar of salt. Lot avoids the temptation of looking back and makes it to a small town. After the destruction of the city Lot eventually goes to the hills like the angels first said where more problems unfold.

Episode 75 Entertaining Angels Unaware
In Genesis chapter 19 we see similarities and differences to Genesis chapter 18. First, we see that Lot and Abraham both have visitors. Lot does not recognize the visitors as angels where Abraham does, Abraham sees God and the angels from a distance in a wooded area and can still recognize them for what they are. The Jewish tradition is that the text implies God never leaves the angel’s side and is still there the entire time but Lot cannot see him or recognize the angels as divine beings. Second, Abraham has a meal with God and the angels while discussing their covenant together implying they have a very close friendship relationship. Lot, however, does not see God and invites the angels to a meal entertaining angels unaware. The differences show that Abraham is listening to God and seeking a relationship with him while Lot is trying to be kind but ultimately his kindness is useless to save him and God shows him mercy on behalf of his relationship with Abraham and not because he is kind.

Here is another great resource but this time it is a New Testament resource. This beauty is the Zondervan handbook to the history of Christianity by Jonathan Hill. This is a very good resource for anyone interested in knowing more about how Christianity grew from 12 seemingly insignificant Jews into the worlds most popular religion. It’s full color pictures make this a very easy read and reference book. The fact that the chapters are laid out into epochs of history makes it easy to find the information that you’re looking for quickly. The additional primary resource quotes in the margins, as well as, the maps make it accurate and easy to learn the specific events Relating to Christianity and the historic context. This book is great reference but it could also be used for any history or Christian history Classroom. This book tends to check its bias at the door and give an even view of Christianity warts and all. It does not shrink back from discussing the mistakes of the Christian church But it does not condemn the church as totally worthless either. In sum, this is a great book for anyone who wants to know more about Christianity and how it’s influence increased over the years. I believe there are few people who truly understand how Christianity has evolved since the first century including myself which is why I bought this book. I hope that you find useful useful in your study.

I found this gem in a local used bookstore. It is a wonderful resource for Jews and Christians alike who want to know more about the first five books of the Bible and how they fit together as a complete narrative. With a copyright of 1982 the historical information is solid but could use an update. Aside from that small matter this book is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to know more about how the first five books of the Bible fit together. Hamilton does an excellent job of making this read like a book and not like a commentary. The headings really helped lead you through the themes within the story. This book was celebrated as the most highly footnoted book about the Pentateuch of its time. I’m sure there are more comprehensive books on the Pentateuch now but the ease of reading, excellent footnotes, and deep theological thinking which is explained simply makes this book a great read for anyone who wants to know more about the Bible that Jesus read.
