IS MORENO VALLEY GETTING THE SHORT END OF THE STICK?
Hillwood is the development company behind the proposed Moreno Valley Trade Center that was recently denied by the Moreno Valley planning commission and is under appeal on the December 7 agenda under item F.1.
Hillwood was established in 1988 by Ross Perot, Jr. He is the only son and eldest child of American billionaire businessman and former United States presidential candidate Ross Perot. Hillwood is one of the largest private real estate developers and investors serving markets in North America and Europe.
In 2000, Hillwood was named master developer for the former Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, California. At that time, the project had experienced no significant development since 1994, when the Air Force turned the base over to the city. The development has since added major facilities for global leaders such as Amazon, Mattel, Pep Boys, Stater Bros., Kohl's, Kohler, Pactiv and PepsiCo.
It should be noted that in the early 1990’s Norton International Partners was selected to redevelop Norton Airforce Base, but those plans did not materialize. It was partnership, headed by developer Iddo Benzeevi and his partner Ray Watt, chairman of Santa Monica-based Watt Industries with assistant by Bechtel Enterprises.
There was some suggestions during the planning commission that the Moreno Valley Trade Center Project is better suited on the other side of Redlands Blvd, the World Logistics Center site being developed by Iddo Benzeevi. There are so many competing interest between these developers that one has to wonder if previous campaigns contributions and politics are at play.
In a December 1, 2021 letter included in the agenda package, the developer behind the MVTC states that it would be pleased to make a $500,000 contribution to the Moreno Valley Community Foundation once the project entitlements become final and non-appealable. Is Moreno Valley for sale? Interestingly, also on December 1, Dallas billionaire businessman Ross Perot, Jr. gifted the Dallas Police Department a new helicopter. These police helicopters go for upwards of $12.5 million. If Hillwood is in the Christmas spirt and wants to create a partnership with the City of Moreno Valley as their letter suggests, let’s also get the Moreno Valley Police department a helicopter. Moreno Valley Measure G just passed so we should not have any issues hiring helicopter pilots.

The chopper has greater capacity than DPD's current fleet.
