Whenever I hear news of a terror attack, I can’t help thinking of the victims—the people around the world who lost their lives and the families affected by the tragedy. I think of my own family and friends, and how any of us could have been there.

We all know that meditation is a great way to tap back into this inbuilt calm, and we often realise that our thoughts are creating this stress, so many of us do incorporate some sort of meditation practice to help us feel better. This is great, and there are many essential oils that can support this practice – if it calls to your soul to do this. But there’s also good news for those of you who don’t necessarily take to meditation – you don’t need to do this practice in order to find your inner stillness. Instead, you can use these same aromatherapy oils to induce a meditative state, and as long as you are doing something to keep you present in this moment, it is likely to have the same effect! Generally, what you love is likely to be the thing that connects you to this moment, because it taps you back into your true nature. So, the answer is simple; all you really need to do is something you really love, that you can ‘get lost in’ in this moment – and diffuse some essential oils at the same time!

Underpinning the broad practice of yoga is a set of ethical guidelines. These nuggets of wisdom, known as the Yamas and Niyamas, and that many of you will be familiar with, provide a useful road-map to help navigate the many twists and turns of life.

The guidelines, laid out in the first two limbs of the ancient sage Patanjali’s eightfold path to enlightenment, apply to every single aspect of life, offering insights into ourselves, others, and the world around us.

The Niyamas highlight the relationship with one’s inner world, touching on cleanliness, contentment, good habits, self-awareness and spiritual growth. But it’s the Yamas, which focus on our relationship with the outer world, that really serve as a vehicle to practice yoga alongside environmental mindfulness.

Classic yoga texts, such as Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, written about two thousand years ago, tell us in matter- of-fact terms that if you sit quietly, pay close attention to your mind, and practice this diligently, then you will gain supernormal powers. These advanced capacities, known as siddhis, are not regarded as magical; they’re ordinary capacities that everyone possesses. We’re just too distracted most of the time to be able to access them reliably.
The sage Patanjali also tells us that these siddhis can be attained by ingesting certain drugs, through contemplation of sacred symbols, repetition of mantras, ascetic practices, or through a fortuitous birth.

Walk 10-15 steps along the lane you’ve chosen, and then pause and breathe for as long as you like. When you’re ready, turn and walk back in the opposite direction to the other end of the lane, where you can pause and breathe again. Then, when you’re ready, turn once more and continue with the walk.

A little anxious? A little stressed out? A little worried about a lot of things right now? Welcome to the same exact predicaments that every single American is going through right now. However, like all things, we all tend to deal with stress and anxiety differently. Luckily, some people are rising to the occasion to help their fellow man.

From free and fantastic online concerts, releasing hit movies early for home entertainment, some states even allowing businesses to deliver alcohol straight to your door, the private sector has stepped in and the public sector has stepped back in order to deliver content, activities, and resources for individuals and families during this time of unified unease as our risk to our financial and physical health force us to remain in our homes.
