Brisbane metalcore outfit Revoid have released their latest single, ‘Blood Petals’, last Friday and its already contention for my favourite song this year! With this being their second release this year, Revoid show their softer side with a lot of emotion being on display, a much slower paced track compared to their previous single, ‘Burn With Me’, which was a polar opposite to ‘Blood Petals’, being much more heavier and faster paced. Showing us their range of potential, we are entering into a new era of Revoid.

With a nice and smooth and soft intro, the scene is immediately set for the mood of this song. Starting off with the lyrics, “you used to mean everything to me, only ever bloom for me,” sets the tone of the emotional attachment that is to be displayed throughout the song. This song can be compared to their most popular, ‘Noise In My Head,’ which shares the same slower paced vibe but what separates ‘Blood Petals’ and makes it its own, is the decision of not having any screaming vocals. ‘Blood Petals’ is a rollercoaster of emotions led by the way of both vocalists on the track, their very own Dale Dudeson and their feature artist, Julian Latouche from Sydney band Inertia with both of them showing off their vocal ranges, pouring a multitude of emotion into their piercing high notes, giving the track that extra edge of rawness when it comes to comparing to ‘Noise In My Head’. With a soft, silky drum groove in the verses to add to the feel, to an explosion of feels when the choruses hit.

As we are hitting a new wave of Revoid, the boys make no mistake in letting us know that they indeed are reaching the next level, with working with producer Kris Crummett. Having also previously worked on ‘Burn With Me’, Revoid are taking advantage of his 20+ years’ experience with multiple successful bands such as Sleeping With Sirens and The Devil Wears Prada, to help further themselves and their sound. Alike ‘Burn With Me’, ‘Blood Petals’ holds an atmospheric and crispy production around each instrument and vocal layer. Also on the sound production team is Mark Williamson of Keywork Studio and Inertia. With much experience working with Julian together in their band, Mark is the perfect man to know how to make Julian’s voice shine and working alongside Crummett, the pair helped to enrich and blend both Dale and Julian’s vocals together to provide a heartful contrast on both of their performances.

Revoid have also taken the leap in the visual department, grabbing a hand from Nevenko Sarunic of Deadend to help create a beautiful 3D animated clip. With the help of finding his own meaning for the song which he detailed on his Instagram, Nevenko was able to create beautiful visual effects using some of the theology behind the meaning of a blood petal. Taking this meaning into effect, the watcher is made to focus on the video to unravel its hidden meanings behind its ambiguity. Visualising a human like entity stuck in an endless loop, helpless against his own despair, he is too weak to stave off the blood petals, engulfing every inch of his body. Giving up, he succumbs to disappearing into a blood vortex. To put into less ambiguous terms, summarising Nevenko’s interpretation, the song is about trying your hardest to love someone while they lose themselves and having to let them go.

With now two new singles out this year, fans are left for another taste and hinting at a possible second EP or possible album. ‘Blood Petals’ has proven to me that this is the style of writing that I would love to hear more from the Revoid boys, seeming to have that extra something that other bands in the scene don’t when it comes to writing ambient, powerful and emotional music. Revoid are embarking on their first headline tour of Australia in October, so don’t miss your opportunity to see them play ‘Blood Petals’ for the first time live in your city!

REVIEWS ARE BACK! haven't posted a review in a few weeks, bout time they come back :)

New Clear Vision are back after a long hiatus. With a brand-new lineup, the first single since 2019 has recently been dropped a couple weeks ago. ‘The New Rage’, is our first taste of this new era of NCV. New Clear Vision are a masked nu metal band hailing from Sunshine Coast with a lot of attitude, important messaging and groove which is what is proven in this new single.

Starting the track off with a very eerie themed audio seemed to be a clip from a horror film, two men talking about an outbreak spread throughout chimps. Then we are welcomed back with some bass and vocals, quickly followed by a groovy nu metal drum beat. Off the bat, New Clear Vision are out the gate picking up where they left off with their Body Count influenced sound. Providing their usual in your face approach to their music, we are also treated to a little bass interlude if you would like to call it, slowing down the pace of the song before the sound of the toms bring us back into a slower beat and riff, worthy of nothing less than a slow bop of the head. While commenting on certain political topics, the band have always been open about their opinions and encourage others to do the same and stand up for what they believe in.

This track also gets an upgrade in the production category. While still sticking with their raw and authentic sound, the drums sound more punchy and vibrant while the guitars sound to have more tone to them and less grain. Being compared to their debut album which was released in 2017, even after a three year hiatus and a new lineup, New Clear Vision have come back strong and improved. ‘The New Rage’ is a well-polished product since previous releases that showed their progression in sound over the years, with ‘Game Of Life’ in 2019 and ‘This Is Not A Love Song’, in 2020.
With the first track after a two year break done and dusted, the boys are ready to pick up where New Clear Vision was last left off and its clear its what the fans wanted. Since coming back, NCV are ready to be apart of the very special tour Nu Metal Mayhem, featuring metal royalty in Anders Colsefni (Slipknot original) and Waylon Reavis (Ex Mushroomhead). Be sure to catch them at a gig and keep an eye out for new and established New Clear Vision tunes.
