HAITIANS SURROUNDED BY DRUG WARS ~ just after midday on Sunday a group of balaclava- wearing armed men entered Assembly of God church , which is situated on the outskirts of Haiti's capital, Port -au-prince , and killed police inspector Reginald Laleau. the 45 year old led a unit which regularly patrols territory controlled by one of the capital's most feared gangs called 400 Mawozo. after murdering the inspector, the gunmen left the church taking his body with them.later that evening 400 Mawozo shared a video showing the gang's leader next to laleau's body threatening to kill everyone in his police unit. An estimated 60% of port-au- prince is now classed as lawless.the city similar to the size of Los Angeles has been paralyzed by a battel for power and territory between dozen of gangs.once buzzing with nightlife , the city center now looks and feels like a ghost town.the shops are shut and many residents have abandoned their homes out of fear of being caught in the crossfire.gang related violence has been on the rise since 2021, reaching shocking levels in recent weeks.the G9 , an alliance made up of 9 gangs, controls the city's major coastal ports and oil terminals. access to Haiti's South is in the hands of 5 Segonn , a gang which has boasted on social media of seizing entire buses full of people.

4 MORE GRAIN SHIPS LEAVE UKRAINE ~ 4 more ships carrying grain and sunflower oil have left Ukraine ports via a safe maritime corridor. The latest ship to sail are bound for Turkey where they will be inspected as part of a deal reached with Russia and the United Nations. They left on Sunday from the ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk and will travel through the Bosphorus Strait. after the inspections 2 are expected to dock in Turkey while the other 2 are headed for Italy and China.another empty ship arrived in Chornomorsk on Sunday afternoon ready to be loaded with grain for export. 22 million tonnes of grain are stuck in Ukraine.if the deal holds Ukraine expects to export up to 3 million tonnes of grain per month.the exports will help ease the global food crisis.the first ship to leave Ukraine last week, the Razoni , departed Odesa carrying 27 000 tonnes of corn bound for the Lebanese port of Tripoli.Ukrainian authorities have urged companies to return to the country's ports..

JORDAN'S UNDECLARED WAR AGAINST DRUG TRAFFICKERS ~ at the height of the conflict in Syria, smugglers and militant groups took advantage to supply Captagon, a very addictive drug, which is often laced with caffeine, which they gave to fighters, to boost their courage and help them stay alert on the frontlines.the consequences of taking it are very serious.They can include violence and psychosis.with few legitimate work opportunities and growing poverty, many ordinary Syrians became involved in the drugs trade.Now, with Syrian economy shattered by a decade of war and still stifled by international sanctions, it has turned into a billion-dollar industry worth far more than any legal exports.the pills regularly show up in ports, airports and at crossing points,often expertly hidden.they have been found inside containers of machinery and fruits and from animal carcasses.skirmishes between Jordanian military and drug traffickers are becoming more frequent with larger hauls being made.since the start of 2022 the army has intercepted more than 17 000 packets of hashish and 17 million pills of Captagon.Jordan is largely a transit route to the drug's biggest market: the gulf states particularly Saudi Arabia.they is a presence of about 160 armed groups operating in southern Syria alongside the smugglers.they have new tactics like those of organized crime and use drones and expensive customised vehicles.the increase in illegal activity and the killing of a Jordanian soldier has prompted a change in the army's rules of engagement.it has adopted a shoot-to-kill policy.27 traffickers were killed by the military in January when it foiled a co-ordinated effort to cross into Jordan at several points along the border.

US KILLS AL-QAEDA LEADER AYMAN AL-ZAWAHIRI ~the first signs of an operation that was months in the making erupted when an attack rocked the center of Kabul in the early hours of Sunday morning.Kabul woke to the news that the US had killed the leader of al -Qaeda Ayman al Zawahiri in a drone strike in Sherpur, a neighborhood notorious over the past 2 decades for its garish multi-storey villas.Zawahiri was a guest of the Taliban leadership living in a Villa at the heart of Kabul which belonged to Sirajuddin Haqqani, the acting Taliban interior minister who is under US terrorism sanctions.since the Taliban swept into Kabul on 15 August last year, there have been repeated and credible reports of Al-Qaeda fighters crossing the Pakistan border into Afghanistan.Al-Zawahiri was killed in a counter terrorism operation carried out by the CIA in the Afghan capital of Kabul.he and Osama bin laden plotted the 9\11 attacks together and he was one of America's most wanted terrorist.from hiding he co-ordinated al -Qaeda's branches all around the world including setting priorities for providing operational guidance and calling for inspired attacks against US targets.the 71 year old Egyptian doctor took over the leadership of al-qaeda following the death of Osama bin laden in 2011.Zawahiri was on the balcony of a safe house when the drone fired 2 missiles at him.other family members were present but they were unharmed and only Zawahiri was killed.

UNDERWATER DRONES SEIZED BY SPANISH POLICE ~ spanish police have seized 3 underwater drones built to smuggle drugs across the sea from Morocco.the unmanned submersibles are apparently capable of carrying up to 200kg of cargo.as part of the 14 month investigation, 8 people have been arrested in Cadiz, Malaga and Barcelona.according to the police they have broken up a gang suspected of building the vehicles and supplying them to drug smugglers across Europe. It is the first time the Spanish police have discovered an underwater vehicle capable of being operated unmanned. The 15 km-wide strait of Gibraltar which separates Europe from Africa and a favoured route among drug smugglers, is the narrow strip of sea that separates Morocco from Spain. One of the submarines was completely built and 2 more were still under construction. It is believed the pair being built were intended to be delivered to a French gang for smuggling co***ne.armed with GPS navigation systems, the vehicles could potentially be operated by drug traffickers from anywhere in the world using an internet- device as a tablet.among those arrested were a father and son one of whom police say was a qualified helicopter pilot who had the technical knowledge needed to build such sophisticated vehicles.the gang specialized in building a wide range of air ,land and sea vehicles intended specifically to transport drugs.Spain has become a key point of entry for drugs into Europe because of its proximity to Morocco - a major cannabis producer with close ties in South America, where much of the world's co***ne is produced.
