Few days ago I took my bike to the shop to be repaired. There was nobody about a normally busy shop. I looked in a near by field and saw a group of of people with there phones circling around a pile of bamboo.
A Monacled cobra , Naja kaouthia, had a fish hook in its mouth and a the line was tied VERY tight to a nearby fence. This snake was rolling around and causing unbelievable damage to itself. I managed to convince them not to kill it and let me catch it.
On closer inspection, I noticed the bottom jaw had been ripped apart and the bone was sticking through the skin. The hook was barbed and would need to be cut off, but I couldn't do it in the field. So, much to my girlfriends delight, I bought the cobra home.
A friend and myself examined the snake later and noticed something very odd...the hook had disappeared! It was not in the jaw anymore and not bag that I caught it in!
What happened in that bag from field to home I do not know, I can only assume that the hook was dislodged and swallowed?
With its painful injuries and potentially having a hook stuck inside it somewhere, the snakes future in the wild is unsure. The decision was made to keep the snake until I can see it feed itself and hope that the hook makes it out the other end.
Well, a few poos later and still no hook, which is worrying, but she is full of energy, attitude and huffing away every time I change her water or check up on her. The jaw is looking better, it doesn't look so raw now but of course has the deformity. I will give her abit more rest and try to feed her next week.
Fingers crossed this expert pest controler will be out in the wild helping us once again asap.

𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗖 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚
After speaking to the doctor who treated this patient. I can offer a follow up on our previous Malayian Pit Viper bite story.

The patient was a Cambodian lady, living in Thailand. She delayed getting treatment and as a result left the venom to do its destructive work.
These pictures were taken on administration, before the fasciotomy and thumb amputation. 2 vials of antivenin were given, but still the venom continued attacking her body.

Despite being told the dangers, this patient discharged herself from hospital in favour of herbal treatment.
He current condition is unknown.

𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗖 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚

These rather gruesome photos are the result of a bite from Malayan Pit Viper, Calloselasma rhodostoma. AKA the 'Land Mine'
It is unclear of the circumstances that led to this bite, the patient, however, delayed getting treatment and as a result, the venom has caused devastating tissue and cell damage to the entire arm.
The thumb has since been removed and a procedure known as a fasciotomy was needed to allow the area to swell (see the very clean blade cuts).
A very nasty bite and one that, unfortunately, is still developing.
All our thoughts are with this person in what must be not only a painful but emotionally devasting incident.

This 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘 image is thought to be the first known case of an elephant with 𝟮 𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗡𝗞𝗦. There have been myths about a two trunked male roaming the area for many years, but never before has its image been captured!

The picture was taken on a camera trap set up by elephant researchers "somewhere" in northern Thailand.

I know many people who, either for health or conscience, have chosen to not eat meat, that's great! Keep it going guys!
They have come to this decision by the information available everywhere if one looks.

For varying reasons, some will still eat fish however. I thoroughly recommend the new Netflix documentary '𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘆' for more information on what our love of fish does to the oceans.
It is of course very one-sided as far as narrative is concerned, but if the statistics given are true, the numbers are extremely worrying.

𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 fish die every minute as a result of industrial fishing.

𝟭𝟭,𝟬𝟬𝟬-𝟯𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 are dying 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗨𝗧𝗘 as 'bycatch' from industrial fishing vessels WE use to catch our food.

The same industry is responsible for 𝟯𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗻𝘀 death as a result of bycatch every year.

𝟲 out of the 𝟳 species of 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀 are threatened or endangered, its not the plastic bags or straws (although they don't help), its the industrial fishing.

Im not preaching, but this information must be heard to let people make an informed decision on what they eat and where their food comes from.

Forever in my mind, EVERY time i see fish on the menu, i also see 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗸, 𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗻𝘀, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗵.

This is the reality of eating fish. This is not sustainable and within 𝟯𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 our oceans will be 𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗗.

Monster Reticulated Python in Bangkok.

The story says that this is the biggest wild snake seen in years (in Bangkok). They filmed it until it disappeared. They now cannot find it.
Let's hope it stays hidden.

Leatherback laying eggs in Kata beach, Thailand. Normally many many people frequent here and it's extremely rare for turtles to lay because of that. Guess there are some upsides to covid restrictions. What an end to a year!

Incredible footage from . This shows a turtle desperately trying to escape the jaws of a tiger shark!!

You will be happy to learn the turtle was saved by the people on the boat and safely returned to the ocean.
