Truth to be told... This happened before I was born, but still once in a while I think of how the game has changed during the years.
Andy Brown was the last goalie to play without facial protection.
Ironically, during his playing career, Brown wore a mask in practice because he didn't want to take "unnecessary risks," but refused to don one during actual games.
For playing without a mask, Brown earned the nickname "Fearless."
These days I'm even thinking about wearing a helmet when playing pond hockey. The game has evolved and in some ways, for the better.
