Matthew 21:12-13

Now that's badass Christianity.

Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.

and said unto them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called the house of prayer,’ but ye have made it a den of thieves.”

Don't play by their rules.

Protesting within a white Christian nationalist system only fuels complicity.

Dr. Miguel De La Torre talks to us about the competing interests that sometimes happen between ethics and religion.

"I take it very personally that the church blesses white supremacy as part of the religion of Jesus," says Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis.

When our bodies carry the weight of white supremacy's long-term damage, how can we move forward without mending these wounds?

Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis hears the voices of MLK and Fannie Lou Hamer when she feels afraid. Fighting Christian nationalism is tough work, but we must not succumb to a worldview that would otherwise squash us like bugs.

Why hope?

"We hope because someone else did," says Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis.

Look how far you've come. Look how far we've come. Our movement for equity and justice has been a struggle. It's been a journey. It's been a miracle. Thank you, Lord.

Having the language to describe injustice is power.

Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis describes white nationalism as a cornerstone of America's foundation. It's always been here, but only now do we have the language to identify it. Now that we can name it, we can be truthful and begin to counteract it.

Rob Schencks knows he's done a lot of damage while a part of the anti-choice movement. He knows very well that feeling of discomfort that we tuck away to deal with later. But he wants you to know that speaking your conscious is the best thing you can do.

"It's amazing how many people are out there troubled in a similar way," Rob Schenck says.

Speaking up when something just doesn't feel right is an act of courage that can inspire that person that's waiting for someone else to say something.

And maybe person by person, a movement starts where we realize we're not alone in these feelings of discomfort and moral crisis.

Change can often be a slow journey.

But you know what really has the power to break through our own illusions? The stories and real-life experiences of others. Our preconceived notions begin to crumble through their moments of heartache, joy, sadness, and triumph. We learn to see the world as it truly is for them, rather than through the lens of our own beliefs.

It's a humbling process that opens our hearts and minds to a deeper understanding of the diverse realities around us. So let's embrace the power of empathy, and let the stories of others shape our perceptions for the better.

Rob Schenck sheds light on the modern anti-abortion sentiment among Evangelicals and its disconnection from biblical teachings.

In our provocative convo with Rob, he explores the Evangelical anti-choice stance, the dangers of Christian Nationalism and how to listen to that little voice in your head telling you something's morally wrong.

When Rob Schenck first joined the evangelical movement, leadership was gender-mixed.

"But with time, the men would start shoving women, sometimes literally, physically aside, push them out of the way, take center stage," he said.

Eventually, those women moved to tertiary roles and then completely out of the movement, setting up the male-dominated space in which we exist today.

Rob Schenck, often regarded as THE father of the anti-choice movement, gained notoriety as a young pastor when he made headlines by presenting a dead fetus to President Bill Clinton.

However, his journey took a transformative turn as he became a significant influence on conservative Supreme Court justices. In this early episode of the Complexified Podcast, Rob talks about his personal transformation and his realization of the profound risks posed by Christian Nationalism.
