FYI: LA HARPE CITIZENS, THIS WILL BE A TEST ONLY!

Tomorrow 9/5 at 11AM, I will testing the storm sirens!!!! We had some programing done today and I want to test the updates. This update will allow me to activate the sirens from my portable radio if needed. This gives us more options during the storms.

We will not test the sirens if we are having any adverse weather conditions.

La Harpe Public Library Hours: Tuesday & Thursday 1pm to 4pm.
Saturday Sept. 7th & 21st 9am to 12pm. In need of a computer, the Library has 2, along with a printer.

Angela was appointed to the open council seat at last night's special meeting. Angela was voted in, with a 3-1 vote, to take the seat that was vacated in May 2024 by Austin Lee, she will remain in the seat until her term expires in 2027.

Aug. 20th: 11:50am
Water leak has been fixed and all water has been restored.
Aug. 20th: 10:09am
Crew will be shutting off a few water valves to finish repairing the leak.

We have located the leak and will be gathering parts, at this time we are not sure if we will turn the water off and make the repair today or start first thing in the morning. I will update you more when I have the information to give.

It seems we have a water leak, we believe its in the same area as the leak last week. At this time it is not clear of when or if the water will be turned off. I will keep everyone updated as we find out more . As a reminder you do not need to call in and let us know the water is off or ask how long it will be, we will let you know right here! Thanks

Animal Control
All dogs are required to be registered with the city. Dog tags are good from May 1st to April 30th, need proof of rabies vaccination before purchasing city tags.
The cost of tags is $5.00 for neutered/spayed or $7.50 for unneutered/spayed. Plus, now a $5 late fee per dog.
Dogs are not allowed to roam freely in the city, they must be on a leash. If your dog is picked up by animal control, there will be a kennel fee ($15 per day) and a pay or appear citation. You might rush in to get your dog tagged before the La Harpe Police Department issues you a citation for the untagged dog.

Dog at large first offense for the year is $60 fine plus $80 court cost. The second offense is $120 fine, third offense is $240 fine and so on and so forth. We don't like doing this, but we have issues with the same handful of people and their pets.

MEETING HAS BEEN CANCELED!

Monday, August 19, 2024, the city council will be meeting to discuss the city's sewer project. The meeting will start at 5:30pm at La Harpe City Hall.
The public is always invited to attend any council meetings if you are interested in staying informed with things happening in the community.

Update 2:07 the water is being turned back on as we speak.

The City is repairing a water main today, this is the same line that we had issues with last week. A large portion of the City will be with out of water for approximately 2-3 hours. Please be patient with the repairs and we will keep you updated.

Applications are now being accepted by the City of La Harpe for the maintenance department. Minimum age requirement-18, must have a Class A or B CDL and high school diploma or equivalent. Successful applicants will be required to take a drug screen. Application and job description may be picked up at the La Harpe City Hall, 902 S. Washington, La Harpe, KS.

Evergy is out that feeds La Harpe, we do not have a time frame when power will be restored.

The city is with out power, Evergy is aware of the problem and are out making repairs to the lines that supply the city. We have no time frame for these repairs as we have to wait on them.

This is one of the 8.5' replicas of the Statue of Liberty which were donated by Boy Scouts to celebrate the Scouts' 40th anniversary in 1950. Over 200 were originally in place and at least 26 remain in Kansas - more than any state except Iowa.

All of the ones in the country were purchased through the Kansas City Boy Scout office.

This one is in Garnett, Kansas.

While the 2024 La Harpe Days activities start with a fun run/walk at 7, the parade at 11, and carnival and yard games starting at noon, we are most looking forward to seeing La Harpe Police Department Chief Joe Stotler on the dunk tank between 1 and 2 Saturday afternoon.
