HEALED OF FIBROMYALGIA contd
"I was really frustrated that nobody knew what was wrong with me and none of the medications worked. I also felt that nobody could really understand how much i was suffering. "
The symptoms continued, and with greater intensity. "In February 2008, I started going to specialists for help, and more thorough examinations were carried out.
I had full back x-rays, reflex and muscle response tests, MRI scan, CT scan, and blood tests. Eventually, i was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
A month later, i ended up in hospital. "
Cora was an undergraduate of the Stellenbosch University, South Africa,
and her bubbly personality permitted nothing less than the exciting.
She was actively involved in student life and had leadership responsibilities in her local church.
However, the first major impact of the condition was devastating; it reversed her lifestyle and almost put an abrupt end to her education and aspirations.
"I could no longer study. I was an accounting student on my way to becoming a chartered accountant.
I was very active in student life, and i was on the House Committee. I was also committed in church, living a full and happy life. The disease made it impossible for me to study further so i stopped my studies in may 2008.
In 2009, i resumed studies again, but this time doing only half of my subjects. It was still very hard, because i couldn't walk or write properly and still felt sick most of the time. " She recounted how she felt on hearing the diagnosis of her condition. "When the doctor first told me i had fibromyalgia, i didn't realise what it was. I was just glad they had found what was wrong with me so they could treat me. But when i asked the doctor how he was going to treat it, he said there was nothing really that could be done, but that i had to change my lifestyle. He told me i had to do a lot less, drop half of my subjects, and rest a lot more.
