গতিশীল মন খুব বেশি সময় নেয় না অতীতে ফিরতে। আজই যেমন একটা পুরোনো সাক্ষাৎকার পড়ছিলাম সৌরভের। ২০০৯-১০ এর হবে। প্রশ্নকর্তা জিজ্ঞেস করছিলেন , " এত চাপের মাঝে কিভাবে বার বার ফিরে আসেন?"

অদ্ভুত সুন্দর উত্তর দিয়েছিলেন সৌরভ। বলেছিলেন ," নিরাপদ আর সহজ থেকে জীবন চালানো আমার কাছে স্থিতাবস্থা। আমি সেভাবে ভাবি না। বহুদিন আগে আমায় এক সাংবাদিক বলেছিলেন, পাকিস্তান থেকে কোন ভারত অধিনায়ক জিতে ফেরেননি। আপনার না অধিনায়কত্ব চলে যায়! সেই পাকিস্তান থেকেই জিতে ফিরলাম। কামব্যাক সিরিজে সাউথ আফ্রিকায় পৌঁছাতেই এক ঘনিষ্ঠ সাংবাদিক বললেন, " তোকে এখানে না ফিরিয়ে দেশের মাটিতে ফেরালে ভালো হত।" বললাম, তো কি ! রান এখানেই পাবো। পেলামও। রেসিপি একটাই বুকের খাঁচা।অন্য কিচ্ছু নয়।

মাঝে মাঝে ভাবি তাঁর পর্যায়ের মনোবিদ থাকতে ভারতের স্যান্ডি গর্ডনকে কেন যে প্রয়োজন হতো !
