Today, 100 years ago, American jazz double bassist, pianist, composer and bandleader Charles Mingus was born. He is often regarded as one of the greatest jazz composer of the 20th century.
Timeless Records founder and jazz agent Wim Wigt did many concerts and tours with Mingus between 1972 till 1978. After his death in 1979 his bandmembers formed a jazz ensemble called the Mingus Dynasty.
To celebrate his birthday Timeless Records recently released unreleased work from Mingus Dynasty, recorded in 1985, called Fables of Faubus. The song Fables of Faubus is a composition written by Mingus himself and is one of his most political explicit works, highlighting the racial issues in 1960s. This recording features Buster Williams, Billy Hart, Roland Hanna, Jimmy Knepper, John Handy, Ralph Moore and Jack Walrath. Fables of Faubus is exclusively available on all digital stores.
