Replay: Walking in your purpose
My name is Giselle. I go by Elle or Gigi, I am the owner of Iman Jae, affordable luxury streetwear for women. When the pandemic happened I had a moment of clarity. The world stopped and there were so many people trying to figure out their next move, I couldnât do hair because of the lockdown, and thatâs where the clarity came I hated doing hair. I did it only for survival and I was tired of just surviving, I wanted to live. I wanted to be happy.
I tapped into my 9-year-old dreams. I envisioned myself with a clothing line, this was the only thing I saw for myself clearly and this was a perfect time. So I launched a shirt and it sold out in a few days. At that moment God wouldnât allow this to happen if it wasnât my purpose. Thatâs honestly what I remind myself of when I have moments of self-doubt. God wouldnât allow things to happen if this wasnât my path.
Seeing the excitement on my son's face when people say they love the products or him watching me pack orders and heâs rooting me on, it pushes me further! Although this is my dream and Iâm doing it for me, this is my children's example of entrepreneurship and truly believing in yourself. This is why I named this after my kids Iman is my daughter's middle name Jae is for my son his name is Jax but we call him J. The walk hasnât been easy but itâs been fruitful in more ways than one.
The 5 Second Rule: Pre-Record (Life Hack)
Need to make a decision? Donât overthink it â just count to five and decide.
The simple life hack coined by best-selling author Mel Robbins in her book âThe 5 Second Ruleâ requires you to make a decision in five seconds.
The rule is easy: When an opportunity arises, donât think about it â just count 5-4-3-2-1 and decide.
The technique helps you avoid procrastination and get over your fear of making a bad choice, according to Tim Denning, a 31-year-old entrepreneur in Australia.
âYouâre going with your gut and your heart at the same time as opposed to using too much logic, which leads to overthinking,â Denning tells NBC News BETTER.
Procrastinate No More!
Why Do We Procrastinate?
Ok, definitions are great and all, but why do we procrastinate? What is going on in the brain that causes us to avoid the things we know we should be doing?
This is a good time to bring some science into our discussion. Behavioral psychology research has revealed a phenomenon called âtime inconsistency,â which helps explain why procrastination seems to pull us in despite our good intentions. Time inconsistency refers to the tendency of the human brain to value immediate rewards more highly than future rewards.
The best way to understand this is by imagining that you have two selves: your Present Self and your Future Self. When you set goals for yourself â like losing weight or writing a book or learning a language â you are actually making plans for your Future Self. You are envisioning what you want your life to be like in the future. Researchers have found that when you think about your Future Self, it is quite easy for your brain to see the value in taking actions with long-term benefits. The Future Self values long-term rewards.
However, while the Future Self can set goals, only the Present Self can take action. When the time comes to make a decision, you are no longer making a choice for your Future Self. Now you are in the present moment, and your brain is thinking about the Present Self. Researchers have discovered that the Present Self really likes instant gratification, not long-term payoff.
So, the Present Self and the Future Self are often at odds with one another. The Future Self wants to be trim and fit, but the Present Self wants a donut. Sure, everyone knows you should eat healthy today to avoid being overweight in 10 years. But consequences like an increased risk for diabetes or heart failure are years away.
Similarly, many young people know that saving for retirement in their 20s and 30s is crucial, but the benefit of doing so is decades off. It is far easier for the Present Self to see the value in buying a new
Living Vs Existing
Oscar Wilde once said that âTo live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.â Most people would wonder whether there is a difference between living and existing. Although both verbs live and exist mean to remain alive, we often use them in different contexts. Existing refers to remaining alive or continuing to be; in simple terms, it can be described as doing what is necessary to stay alive. When compared to existing, living means enjoying your life and savoring every movement of it. This is the key difference between living and existing.
Mindset: The Key to your Success
Ashawna Lane:
I was an entrepreneur long before I even knew what an entrepreneur was. I knew that I wanted more out of life and I wasn't afraid to go out and get it. I was blessed with the gift of gab and used it to become the advantageous entrepreneur I am today. I've owned multiple successful businesses and have always managed to turn what I love doing into different sources of sustainable income for myself.
After working my way up to becoming a top advisor for one of America's largest Fortune 500 Companies- I decided to walk away and pursue my ultimate goal of being a full time entrepreneur & business owner. In 2020 I broke up with Corporate America and started my own consulting & mentorship company.
Although scared and unsure of what the outcome would be, it was truly one of the best decisions I could've made with my life. I went on to form My company which focuses on encouraging entrepreneurship in youth and adults.
My mission is to show people that with self-belief, determination and ambition- anything is possible. To date I've helped dozens of entrepreneurs become business owners and create sustainable opportunities for themselves and their families.
My goal is to continue cultivating and inspiring people to go after the things they want in life. Nothing is unattainable and with the right mindset we can all achieve our greatest dreams!
My vision is to be a beacon of hope and motivation for those who have lost faith and don't believe that they can still do, be and have more in life.

What's Holding You Back?
The Fear of Success.
The fear of success involves being afraid of achievement, often to the point that people will sabotage themselves. While success is generally viewed as desirable, there are reasons why people may be fearful of doing too well.
It is important to recognize is that people often don't fear "The success" itself. Instead, their fear is centered on the potential consequences of success. Because expectations of success are often based on the idea that achieving your goals means making sacrifices or enduring losses, it is perhaps not surprising that people may be wary of what success might ultimately cost them.
