Kettal Studio's The Arc collection features an enveloping backrest based on fundamental geometry: a constant radius arc, epitomising restrained, elegant proportions.

The light aluminium frame maintains the classic armchair tradition, with a backrest featuring simple yet sophisticated braided strips. Meanwhile, the seat is padded with polyurethane foam covered in matching fabric and the fabric cushion has a removable cover. The collection is used mostly in hotels, in lobbies and rooms, on cruise ships and also in domestic settings as light furniture in sofa and dining areas.

Thames City, a prestigious collection of prime properties located at London's Nine Elms, has launched its first amenity spaces designed by Ed Ng and Terence Ngan from Hong Kong-based design studio abconcept.

abconcept was chosen to conceive three bespoke amenity spaces — an entrance hall, library, and 18-person private dining room — for residents at Thames City, following a longstanding relationship spanning over a decade.

The abconcept-designed spaces are the first to be unveiled, and are set in the 53-storey building No.8 to form part of Thames City’s private resident’s club, Club 1974.
The design studio took inspiration from the development's prime positioning on the River Thames, bringing the outdoors in via architecturally striking circular courtyards. An elegant retreat and hidden pockets of outdoor space, these courtyards flow into a contemporary entrance delicately composed of form, light and shape inspired by the ripple-effects of the water.

Global architecture, engineering and consultancy company Ramboll has announced record results in 2021, with its highest revenue and operating profit ever, putting it in a strong position to deliver on a new four-year Group strategy dubbed ‘The Partner for Sustainable Change’.

The record-high result reflects strong performances in almost all geographies, especially in the UK, Germany, and Central Europe & Africa, where Ramboll achieved double-digit organic growth. Growth was also strong in the US and across the Nordics, except in Sweden where Ramboll experienced a slight decline in revenue. In the Middle East, Ramboll had a negative growth as the company has been closing down its oil and gas activities in the region.

From a market perspective, the new business unit Henning Larsen had a very successful start with double-digit organic growth and strong profit.

“Delivering a record result in a year where the Covid-19 pandemic continued to affect our daily lives underlines the strength of our business,” says Group CEO of Ramboll, Jens-Peter Saul.

Flexibility in the workplace is the key to Kettal's Pavilion O, a modular structure that reinvents the workplace.

Many companies have adapted to the increasingly unpredictable market by creating agile organisational structures, which require office structures that can be easily reconfigured to suit ever-changing requirements.

The principal function of Pavilion O is to provide a flexible way of dividing offices into zones while offering enclosed workspaces. It consists of an aluminium structure that can be built out with a variety of materials: glass, wood and fabric, as well as practical fittings: shelving, TV unit, whiteboards and bulletin boards.

The Pavilion O also allows for the integration of electrical cables and functional accessories that can be tailored to your company’s specific needs. Click & Work, Kettal's unique clipping system, facilitates the easy transformation of spaces based on a quick and easy installation and demountable structure.

Qatar Museums' iconic Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) will reopen to the public on 5 October 2022 following a facilities enhancement project and the reimagination and reinstallation of its permanent collection galleries.

One of the world's premier institutions of Islamic art and the first world class museum in the region, MIA will re-open in time for the influx of visitors to Doha for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The MIA, an architectural tour de force designed by internationally acclaimed Pritzker Prize-winning architect IM Pei, which opened in 2008, was the first institution opened by Qatar Museums under the leadership of Chairperson, Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Prominently positioned on its own reclaimed island on the Corniche, specifically chosen by Pei, the Museum is a beacon for Islamic arts and a platform for international dialogue and exchange bridging past and present, East and West.

The reimagining of the collection galleries introduces a comprehensive visitor trail, creates expanded interpretive materials to help contextualise the masterworks, and provides new mobile and child-friendly resources to make the Museum more accessible for families and younger guests.

Striking architecture and interiors by AB Concept reflect the Algarve's colourful history and iconic landscape in new W Hotel property

W Hotels Worldwide is set to unveil the highly-anticipated W Algarve, a 134-guestroom hotel and 83 Residences which will feature design spearheaded by AB Concept.

Entwining the Algarve's striking natural scenery and rich Portuguese history with the brand's signature style, the design injects sophisticated, striking design and colourful, storied interiors into the property.

The destination's Benagil caves inspired the flowing design of the hotel's interior spaces, while the colour palette of blues, aquamarines and turquoise are a nod to the azure sky and Atlantic Ocean. From fabrics and surfaces to tempting textures, guests will discover expertly curated art and lighting all telling the story of local traditions and heritage — from ceramics, mosaic and crochet to Moorish costume, fishing livelihoods and the destination's surf culture.

"We love to create expressive designs for both experience and memory, creating both impactful first encounters and lasting impressions," said Ed Ng of AB Concept.
"We are delighted to be working with W Hotels Worldwide to bring our joint vision of W Algarve to life, combining the cultural nuances and local traditions of this beautiful region of Portugal with W Hotels' inimitable flair for thoughtful, intriguing and imaginative design across its hotel and residences."

noa* network of architecture has unveiled its proposal for the new European Library of Information and Culture (BEIC), a project which came about as a result of the competition issued by the BEIC Foundation and the City of Milan, and closed on 11 July with an award ceremony at Palazzo Marino.

The brief called for designers to conceive a new cultural hub and initiate a process of urban regeneration in an area undergoing radical transformation, that of Porta Vittoria station.

The proposal from noa* was devised by Angelo Raffaele Lunati and his team. It focused on the The Tree of Knowledge as its main inspiration: "Just as the cover of a book contains a story to dive into, the new European library conceals under a green landscape a knowledge available to anyone who wants to grasp it. Imbued with surreal atmospheres of rooftop forests and flying books, the new cultural centre places the visitor in the perfect condition to venture into new and unknown worlds."

Launched at Milan Design Week in June this year, Hong Kong design studio abconcept partnered with Calico Wallpaper and contemporary glassware brand N**E to present Forest of Reflection, an immersive forest-scape celebrating the launch of Tableau wallcoverings.

Transforming Via Pietro Maroncelli 7 into a forest complete with a grass floor, floating screens and central ‘Nest bar’ crafted from a series of layered antique brass rings, the installation drew from the new Tableau wallpaper collection. This explores the colourful and complex micro-seasons of Japan's coniferous forests using photographs taken by Ng of the ever-changing scenery that surrounds his home in Karuizawa, Japan.

“Forest of Reflection is designed to be evocative, a place of serenity," said Ed Ng,
co-founder at ab concept. "Forests offer a special sense of wellness and stimulate all of the senses: sight, sound, scent, texture and taste. We wanted to replicate this, and offer a place of stillness and escapism.”

The overall design of the space was realised by ab concept.

With interior construction and gallery fitting-out close to completion, the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is expected to open to the public shortly.

Located at the western tip of the West Kowloon Cultural District along the Victoria Harbour waterfront, the HKPM was designed by Hong Kong-based Rocco Design Architects Associates.

The seven-storey building covers a site area of 13,000 sq-m, with a total floor area of approximately 30,000 sq-m and an exhibition space of 7,800 sq-m across nine galleries.

HKPM embodies the aesthetics of traditional Chinese architecture executed with modern architectural techniques in both its interior and exterior designs, while resonating with the rich architecture and culture of the Forbidden City. The exterior design is inspired by Chinese art objects with fine details, simple contour and elegant form.

The east and west façades have a sloping design that opens up space for the Museum Plaza, designed to host art and cultural activities, and where visitors can relax. The sloping façades also offer eco-friendly functions including energy conservation, heat insulation and sound absorption, helping to reduce the impact of noise generated by activities in the vicinity.

Visitors to Singapore's ArtScience Museum will soon be able to go on a multi-sensory journey through the ecosystem of a vast forest with the Asian debut of the virtual reality installation, We Live In An Ocean of Air.

Opening on 28 May 2022, this first-of-its-kind experience in Singapore will be housed within the Museum’s permanent VR Gallery, after the installation’s twice-extended sold-out run at The Saatchi Gallery in London.

We Live in an Ocean of Air was created by Marshmallow Laser Feast (MLF), one of the world’s leading experiential art collectives. As pioneers in immersive experiences, its latest project transports visitors across the globe to Sequoia National Park, California – a forest filled with giant sequoia trees.

Forged at the intersection of art, science, and technology, We Live in an Ocean of Air blends the digital world with the physical space through a combination of state-of-the-art technologies including a VR headset, breath sensors, heart rate monitors and a body tracking device. These visualise the human cardiovascular system as a pulsing red glow and transcribe visitors’ breath as a cascade of particles. The addition of binaural sound, scent dispersal systems, and wind machines will enhance the environment to provide a multi-sensory experience beyond audio and video.

18/05/2022

Located on a hill inside a 30-hectare private estate in Portugal, this project was designed by Studio Nicholas Burns to provide a chapel and meditation room with very specific requirements from the client.

The orientation of the building is designed around specific dates and times corresponding to important events of the client’s family. The idea is that time is marked over generations at these points forming very personal rituals.

Completed in 2020, the intention of the project is to create a series of inward facing contemplative spaces without impacting on the historical buildings of the place as well as the natural context. The building is designed to be quiet and to disappear into the site; over time the vegetation will shroud the built forms, growing around, over and on the building.

The St. Regis San Francisco has recently completed an update of its guest rooms, meeting spaces, lobby, and bar as part of a multi-phase property redesign.

The 260-room luxury hotel is situated in a 40-storey architectural landmark designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, and opened in 2005.

The reimagined St. Regis Bar features rich textures and soft metallics designed by award-winning London-based design firm Blacksheep. In keeping with the hotel's celebrated art collection, the design refresh integrates new pieces in the reception, bar, and dining spaces.

The newly refreshed guest rooms and suites, overseen by
Toronto-based Chapi Chapo Design, honour the California Gold Rush of 1849 that put San Francisco on the map with a colour palette of silver, copper and iron. The firm also enhanced 15,000 sq-ft of meeting and event spaces.

Bogen, a bistro in the heart of the northern Italy city of Bolzano, is a new project by noa* network of architecture.

The bistro is located in one of the oldest trade streets in the city centre and has a past that overflows with life and variety. In designing the interiors, noa* wanted to emphasise the location's history and add a strong floral motif throughout the space.

The ancient vault is characterised by upturned baskets filled with dried flowers, which have become the project's highlight.

The building's strong relationship with history was crucial as a protected monument, and because the design team wanted to
emphasise the original architecture of the arches — the name 'Bogen' is German for 'arch'.
