Hopewell Arch - Red River Gorge, KY
📝 This red and orange hue is common among several sandstone arches along Copperas Creek and in the Clifty Wilderness. The colors wow and they provide excellent adventures as well. The orange and red colors can be difficult to pull from this one, so I feel this was a successful venture in capturing this arch.

Enjoy this gorgeous snow packed trail along Dog Slaughter creek.
❄️ Are you tired of the cold? Because I am. Pretty as it is, I’m done with the snow too. But, the fluffy stuff is very beautiful and I definitely enjoyed it along one of my favorite waterfall trails.

Signature waterfalls of Hocking Hills, Ohio
📝 I like to consider Hocking Hills as a Mid West little sister to the Red River Gorge. I’d say for waterfalls, this tops the gorge since we only have one waterfall on an official trail. These are the most popular waterfalls in Hocking Hills. There are a few other wet weather falls on trails worth checking out in the right season as well. I’ll be back to photograph a few of those someday in the future 🤞🏼

Thanks KY for a great 2024! (long post)
One thing you’ll start seeing this year is watermarks on photos. I’ll try my best to avoid by placing myself in photos. It’s a blessing so many folks enjoy my work; I’m forever grateful. But with that, it’s caused unwanted use of my images. This is a reminder that if you support an artist, please purchase prints from them. If you can afford to print and hang it, you can pay the artist who spent more than you can imagine acquiring the image you enjoy. Print sales allow me to continue working to sustain the gear and equipment needed to be an ambassador for our region.
In 2025, I plan to continue my mission of getting Kentuckians into the outdoors. I also want to improve how I share, ensuring it aligns with the culture we want to represent for our great wilderness. For that, I’ll work with y’all and ask my local artists for feedback, hopefully aligning our stories to the same missions but with unique, local perspectives.
I want to be a part of a well-meaning, intentional community and build one that fits Kentuckians. I’ll still share some viral-style reels because they are my best tool to reach all Kentuckians and encourage them in the outdoors. I’ll keep the reels to well-known, intro-level locations that are well-managed. That’s the whole point! Get people to appreciate the outdoors, get them involved, and get these parks funded and supported the way they deserve. I hope we continue to improve our parks and that this community can be a small catalyst.
Happy New Year to all the great people who DM me questions for trial info and want to chat about hiking gear or photography. I really appreciate you! And to the artist on the same mission as me or a tangential one, let’s collab! Let’s hike! When I started on social, I remember three years ago, so many of you welcomed me, but slowly, a lot of you left me, and often, I didn’t know why. I want to have that community back. Let’s build it together, and I’m willing to sacrifice my follow count or whatever to keep that community. So, please, reach out.

Winter wonderland in the Red River Gorge.
⚠️ the main road is closed in winter after the first big storm. Go to the USDA trail site to see if or when the road is open.
📝 The hike is only 1.5 miles, and it’s a trail I often bring visitors to coming from out of town. Expect some incline on the way out.

The approach is like walking into a fantasy world.
📝 Split now is a short, easy loop trail that shares a trailhead with my post from last week, Bear Creek overlook. Not a lot of people come out here so if you don’t like crowds, the Big South Fork tops the Red River Gorge. Just expect more backroad driving between features.

Admiring the Big South Fork from Bear Creek Overlook.
📝 I went out here with a friend, Larry, a year or so ago and wanted to make it back here for fall. It didn’t disappoint and was a nice quiet evening overlooking the river. This is a short hike that shares a trail head with an excellent arch, Split Bow Arch.

This is the tallest waterfall in Kentucky that you’ll find on an official trail system. . 📝 Yahoo Falls reign in at 105-115ft and is one of our top waterfalls when it comes to height. What makes this site even more impressive is the massive cavern behind the falls. This is a well maintained route and I highly recommend it after some good rain.
