Today's Gospel Reading is Lk 10:38-42

Fr. Sam Kachuba speaks about the connection between Martha, Mary, Jesus, and Jonah.

Mary is willing to be attentive to Jesus, and so she sits at his feet. Martha, carries on with her work. While work isn't bad, it is better to contemplate Christ, to listen to Jesus!

So too, Jonah, brings news of destruction to Nineveh, and he though he has barely entered the city, the king leads his people in repentance. Was there something "better" to be done? Did the king simply cease to have work to do? Of course not, but what was most important in this moment was the act of repentance.

These scriptural passages help us understand, we need to prioritize listening to Jesus! He is not one amongst many, he is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Today's Gospel Reading is Mk 6:17-29

Today is the feast of the Passion of St. John the Baptist. Just as St. John is the predecessor of Jesus, announcing his coming and passion, so too, he endures a passion himself, becoming a martyr for the Truth!

St. John the Baptist, pray for us!

Today we celebrate the feast of St. John Vianney, the first diocesan priest to be canonized. Born on May 8, 1786, St. John Vianney lived during the anti-clerical movement in France. He is known for his tremendous holiness and perseverance in evangelizing his diocese. Through his intercession may the Lord grant great grace to our parish priests!
