“What an inspiring conversation!” Those are the last words of this week’s episode, and I’m sure you will be inspired too by Abi Flynn's extraordinary story and music. Abi is a soul, jazz and R&B singer, with an amazing story. Diagnosed with cancer, and given a terminal diagnosis, she healed, miraculously, after a profound spiritual experience. It’s remarkably similar to my own story, and we explore our shared insights on death and inner transformation. Her song “Courage” was recorded whilst “on her deathbed”.
We also discuss returning from isolation (a topic so relevant to all of us now) alchemy, and how becoming a mother has changed her life.

I had a beautiful conversation with Jasmine Crowe a pop artist, songwriter & producer from LA, which I’m sure will bring some light to your life. “Sky Is Falling” is a powerful song about the death of her father, an astrophysicist, philosopher and musician. We too bring together these paradigms, and contemplate how music fits in, as well as coping mechanisms and mental health, songwriting online, and the relationship between music, time and memory

Have a listen to this amazing conversation I had with Anusha, a pop/R&B/classical/spoken word artist (an amazing mix!). She brings her track “Someone I Never Wanted”, written about her experience of sexual harassment at university.
She describes her struggle to break free of the limits imposed on her by excessive music theory, her classical mindset & the perception of her as a black artist. We also discuss the value of play in a society obsessed with points-based achievements, and how art can precipitate social change. It’s a really fascinating chat - if you’ve got 50 or so mins, definitely give it a listen!

If you haven't already, check out this amazing conversation with Grove, a Bristol-based producer and vocalist. We discuss their q***r & black identity, and how the two intersect, and their song “Black”. We also talk fluidity and self-exploration, Nina Simone, AI, identity beyond classifications, and evolving as society beyond duality.

This week I'm joined by Rizik, an instrumentalist and producer from LA, to discuss his solo piano piece “Alone Together (Panorama)”. We find common ground, both from conservative cultures, and leaving the conventional path to make music (in his case from marketing, in my case from studying at Oxford). Give it a listen.
Any Groove Armada fans out there? In the latest episode of Making Tracks Podcast, I speak to Andy Cato of GA about writing their first hit “At The River”. It involves a country cottage, a speaker turned into a makeshift mic and a trombone…
