My schedule was full of responsibilities. I had a bunch of social commitments I didn’t want to attend. My email and home inboxes were full of stuff. In my quest to get after life, my list of goals kept growing and many weren’t essential. When acquaintances, non-profits or other entities asked for help I almost always said yes...and while all this was going on I was having health complications. My body was breaking down and I was losing a bit of my mobility. I needed to learn how to opt out.

Once you give yourself the permission to stop trying to do it all, to stop saying yes to everyone, can you make your highest contribution towards the things that really matter. This is the idea of essentialism.

When I eliminated as much nonessential stuff from my life as possible, I then found a surprisingly small list of essential things I needed to do. With this new time I found, I was able to focus more on family, adventure, podcasting and writing.

I believe the idea of essentialism is easy to grasp and a good method to prioritize your life...because...if you don't prioritize your life then someone else will prioritize it for you.
Check out this read I just posted if you're interested in learning how essentialism may improve your life. This is also available in audio form.

Years ago I sat down and went over what I wanted from life. One thing I focused on was to avoid a career where I missed out on being available for my kids. I realize that I am very lucky to achieve this goal up to the present day. Finding work/life balance is definitely a significant challenge. I just aired the story of finding work/life balance while still chasing some dreams. Andre Le Brocquy The Life Couch witnessed his father work incredibly hard for his family, but by working so hard, his father sacrificed his health and precious time. Andre has a pretty interesting response. I believe this story will really hit for those of you looking to achieve work/life balance. If you got 30 mins then give a list by hitting the link below.

The presenter for this story is Andre Le Brocquy and he’s a speaker, voice artist, coach and more...but most of all he is a family man. Today he presents his transformative story of turning his attention from his career and instead towards helping others find success, especially fathers.

When I left my undergrad I received a relatively high paying job offer. I remember thinking about the financial security this income would provide, my new ability to buy lots of stuff like a luxury car, a big house in a sought after neighborhood and more. I also remember thinking, this doesn’t feel right, what’s the end game? Work a lot and buy stuff? Is this how I want to spend the rest of my life? Do I want to spend lots of hours away from what I really enjoy in order to purchase home upgrades, luxury cars, whatever?

I ended up rejecting this job offer.

Crisis averted.

I eventually did find balance where I could support my family while pursuing various passions. Things have since evolved.

I just aired the story “This is It” by Colin Wright on This is a True Story Podcast . On a much grander scale than mine, Colin rejected a very lucrative career, sold or gave away everything that couldn’t fit in his suitcase and began his life as a full-time traveler and writer (Exile Life). He’s often credited as the voice of the digital nomad movement and one of the major and original voices within the minimalist world. Minimalism is just a small piece of Colin. He’s written books, periodicals, has two highly successful podcasts and speaks all over the world on various subjects. His words and actions have impacted me and have the potential to impact you. He’s refined and impactful. Give a listen as Colin presents This is It. After his presentation we talk with Colin. Find on all podcast apps and using the link below.

"I am changed. Even in the almost 5 years that have passed since my first sitting, I find it difficult to lace the right words together to truly convey the impact of the experience. Enlightening, without a doubt, but I might go as far as to say profound. Numerous fellow meditators have described it as the most important thing they've ever done for themselves." Caitlin Kratz

Today Poet, Writer, and Experientialist Caitlin Kratz joins us from Los Angeles, CA and presents her story, "What it's Really Like on a 10-Day Silent Meditation Retreat."

Caitlin Kratz publishes on numerous platforms including her own stage, Flight of the Swallow where the core of this platform is an exploration of mindfulness. “Adventure with purpose.” These words mean something to me. When I get outside, I do so with purpose. When I stand on the edge of a cliff, I am here to challenge my fears of heights and grow. When I hike a bunch of elevation and miles, I am here to see what my adaptations can handle. When I am in the outdoors, I visit to heal.

What about you? What is the purpose of your adventure? Your stories lift me.

I believe it’s absolutely vital to get outside. Yesterday, I traversed the Mojave in a Good Somerville tech tee. I don’t take partnerships/sponsorships lightly because I don’t need the additional income. I don’t want your money, rather I want to be part of something meaningful. So when I recommend a product it’s because I value and use the product, it’s sustainably crafted and backed by an honest inventor with a good story.

This Good Somerville tech tee survives the crazy weather of the mojave desert, scrambling over extremely rugged terrain, and I love that it easily packs away into my pocket. will take back any used items for refurbishment and recirculation in exchange for an unparalleled instant credit.

We must support the brands that build high quality, sustainable products, and I am telling you that I own tech tees from the top outdoor brands and the Good Somerville brand is the best.

So support this sustainable brand that is creating the absolute best tech tee and of course get outside and go adventure with purpose. I will be in the Mojave, where will you be?
