Happy National dog day! (Though I think that’s everyday in our dog-centric lives😉)
We visited Mt. Rainier, but my trip was planned to be so dog-centric that other than a road side viewpoint, we didn’t actually set foot in the National Park! 😂 Dogs aren’t allowed on NP trails, but the park is surrounded by wilderness areas that permit dogs and offer some majestic views of Rainier!
Golden hour lupines 🌅
Bailey was 100% good girl perched up on this bench as people, bikes and dogs went by. I often feel a bit self conscious doing the photo thing with my dog with lots of people around, but when it produces a shot that I love this much, I gotta remind myself not to care!
Floof and flowers in the wind 💨
Our day exploring about was cut short by another flat tire (I had 5 flat tires last year 🙈). The worst one I experienced was 2 flats at the same time on a remote FSR and only 1 spare, and we were so lucky someone drove by and taught me how to plug a tire. Closely followed by the time I got a flat in the city but road side assistance said they would be hours away, so I changed the flat wearing a short dress on the side of a busy street 🙈 The lesson I learned was make sure to stock your car with an air compressor, tire plug kit, and an extra pair of shorts!
More pretty sunset picnics please!
This was day that we had rain and clouds most of the day, but while we were heading home the skies opened up with all kinds of vibrant pinks and oranges, so naturally we pulled over for a road side dinner!
I always keep a bag of .petfood in the car just in case for these impromptu meals on the road!
Marshmallow roasting - expert level!
We spent last weekend with my family at a cabin in the mountains. I dragged my parents up an easy hike, we introduced my 2yr old nephew to campfire and roasted marshmallows (he did not like the stickiness 🤣), and soaked in the river-side hot tub. All round the most relaxing weekend, please take me back!

Life has been a whirlwind, but today I set the out-of-office and am taking a much needed mental health day. We are going for fancy patio brunch and a hike, and then donuts or bubble tea (who am I kidding, by “or” I really mean “and”) 😋 What other self care spoils would you recommend for my self-care day off?

Don’t be tricked by the golden glow. We woke up that morning to everything blanketed in snow! The following day it was pouring rain so this turned out to be a well timed pit stop!

I really wanted to write a caption about our last snowy sunset for the season, but who am I kidding, this snow usually hangs around in the alpine until late June! 🙈
Cherry blossom chasing with your best furiend 🌸
A very kind stranger was biking by and took the prettiest behind the scenes pic of us! Well in all honesty, I look super awkward squatting down and Bailey is giving him a suspicious look (“you can only take my photos if you give me treats” 😏), but despite our goofy faces cherry blossoms make everything beautiful! 🤩

Bailey is wearing a brand spankin’ new rain jacket from and I can’t wait to test drive it in our PNW wet spring weather! The human jacket, on the other hand, is an anorak from whenever the last time anoraks were cool (circa late 90s?). I’m unsure how this old jacket would hold up in a downpour but it sure looks cute next to Bailey’s!

Pros of cherry blossom season: dreamy colourful photos on everyday streets
Cons of cherry blossom season: oblivious people lying in the street taking photos blocking traffic (or in this case posing their waving dog 😅)
Ok in reality, this was taken at sunrise on a weekday with no cars around. This popular spot is actually close to home so around this time of year, we walk here in the early morning and avoid it the rest of the day, especially when driving 😅
Spring showers bring pretty flowers 🌸
This was actually a test shot where I used all the wrong settings 🤦🏻♀️, but after some exposure fixes in Lightroom it ended up being my favourite photo of the evening with this golden hour haze!
First weekend of spring but we found a whole lotta winter!
Don’t let this golden glow fool ya, this was the coldest sunset I’ve seen in a while. The wind was howling, it started snowing after dark, and peep Bailey’s little icicle beard. I’m so ready for some warmer weather!

Every year around daylight savings I get the urge to chase sunrises because the sun will rise at 730am, rather than the current time of 630am. I know this makes absolutely zero sense - despite the clocks changing, your body still thinks it’s 630am and you still can’t get out of bed 😂 but I guess this is my strange way of trying to make me feel better about losing 1 hour of sleep this weekend 🙈

This weekend felt like spring! And while that means we are that much closer to summer 🙌, I also saw my first mosquito while waiting for sunset and realized I’m not ready for all the bugs come back 🙈

Would you believe this photo was taken nearly 1hr after the sun had set? I’m always the last to head back down just in case the sunset colours might get better!
Bailey is keeping warm waiting for the sun to set in in her which I’ve been loving because it has been the most waterproof winter jacket we have tried!

Golden girls ✨
I have a whole new appreciation all you who photograph multiple dogs! Ruby is my family’s dog and while these two get along fine, neither really likes to be thisclose to each other. I was originally trying to take a photo of Ruby alone, but I guess Bailey got jealous 😂 and decided to jump on the rock and tuck her butt in, not sure how Ruby didn’t move (she normally startles) but it’s like they knew the golden spotlight was lined up just for them!

Bailey’s looking extra curly from yesterday because she just had a post beach New Year’s Eve bath, but hadn’t been brushed out yet. Good timing because traditionally you’re not supposed to wash your hair on New Year’s Day because they say it will wash away your good luck… So here’s to Bailey bringing us all the luck for the next year!

November can sometimes feel tough, as the days get shorter and so much PNW rain, but when the sun does make an appearance we make the absolute most of it, even managing to drag us night owls out for sunrise hikes like this!
