THIS IS FOR THOSE WHO ARE PLANNING TO BUY BRAND-NEW LAPTOPS, CHECK THIS OUT
Due to the sudden demand on online affairs, being the so-called "new normal", karamihan sa mga activities ay target na gawin online, including school lessons and working from home. Dahil dito, marami ang nagbabalak na bumili ng laptops for themselves, or for their kids. BUT PLEASE, hear us out before you do.
Context: Karamihan sa mga brand new na budget laptops na binebenta nowadays ay mayroong specs na 2GB or 4GB na RAM at mayroong Intel Celeron (some cases, Pentium) na processor.
DO NOT BUY THOSE! Here is why:
I. Intel Celeron & Pentium are the least powerful processors around.
- ano ba ang mangyayari kapag mahina ang processor ng isang computer unit? Wala lang naman. Wala lang naman s'yang magagawa sa multi-tasking. They tend to perform poorly along with other hardware parts. Hindi n'ya kakayaning maghandle ng maraming processes, at hindi din s'ya pasok sa mga minimum requirements ng maraming mga Applications na maaari mong kailanganin.
II. 2GB to 4GB RAM are now at the bottom level
A: Know your specifications.
1. No choice, INVEST ON A HIGHER-END UNIT
- We know that not everyone can afford such thing, but investment will do you good, trust us. It will help you and your unit survive on a long run.
Here are our recommendations for specs (may ):
A. Browsing, Office Works, Video Conferencing
- Processor: Intel i3 or higher, 6th generation
- RAM: at least 8GB
- Storage: 500GB
B. Casual Editing, Gaming, Rendering
- Processor: Intel i5 or i7, AMD Ryzen
- RAM: >8GB
- Storage: 256GB SSD
** As for top-tier specs, we'll leave those for another post for heavy gaming and editing.
2. If you've purchased an entry-level laptop, GO FOR UPGRADES & TUNE-UPS
- Upgrade its RAM, go for a Solid-State Drive (SSD) for better performances (RAM offers more capabilities for multi-tasking; SSD provides faster read/write speed)
- Disable animations and prioritize performance over appearance (PRO TIP: Go to "Advanced System Settings" for these options).
- DO NOT USE A 3RD-PARTY ANTIVIRUS (Let your Windows Defender do the job).
- The less applications you have, the better performance you'll get.
Final note: Mahirap magbudget, lalo na sa panahong to ng pandemic. But do not settle on something that will only make you lose more.
PS. Also, you'll need a more stable internet connection 😉
